Critters captured on camera

Here are a couple of pictures of the Gray Squirrel that has moved in. No Idea how he got here, closest habitat for them is over 60 miles away. He / She (??) likes to feed on the bird block.

Another Road Runner picture. It dug something out of the ground to her left. After tossing it out, she spread eagled over it, span of over 3 feet. Also fanned out her tail as she laid down on what ever she dug out. After 30 /40 seconds she grabbed up what ever it was & left.

Doves are not a digging bird, but later on a dove spent quite a while digging in the same place. Found & ate something.

Tried out a new camera and happy with the results.

Awesome pics! No shortage of antlers there!

Do you have any daytime pictures with that cam? Would be interested in seeing them. What model is that? I'm looking for another cam and trying to decide whether to try another "store-bought" or go with another home brew.

Also, are those homemade feeders? If so, mind sharing your plans?

Here is a day pic. Don't have any deer in any yet. It is a Primos brand. The model is shown at bottom in the pictures. Packaging read 7 megapixel. It does a decent job with the contrasting shade and bright light. I did shrink all the pics quite a bit so they will download faster. The feeders are store bought but would be easy to make out of 5 gallon buckets with lids. Good luck with your choice of camera.

Boone

Nice Sandhills Boone. We also see them here a lot, but I've never seen them on the ground. I'm hoping to attract them with ponds close to my house.

We have hundreds of them here. They aren't afraid of much, but aren't too road wise. We have a pair that comes every year for a couple weeks. They peck on the windows of our shop to get us to throw out some corn.

Yes they are very trusting. It's a wonder that they are not extinct. I have seen parents with their chicks in the emergency lane of the interstate at rush hour with cars passing at 70mph.
We don't see large flocks here but rather groups of 3 -5.
There is a season for hunting them in Texas, so I'm guessing that the birds are smarter there.
Bag and Possession Limits for Sandhill Cranes

I'm thinking that they must be good to eat, although there isn't much of a breast???

I don't dare let my wife see this post. She loves Sand Hill Cranes. She would keep them as pets if she could.

In most parts of Asia and Japan they are revered as a symbol of youth, good luck and happiness.
I think it may make a good pet, but I'm pretty sure it's illegal to keep one.
Many years ago, I encountered one in my yard that would follow anyone around. It would nibble at your hand as if it was looking for food. I suspect someone somewhere was hand feeding it...god only knows what. I didn't feed it. I didn't know what it eats or can eat. It left ater a couple of days.
I was surprised to see that these birds are hunted. They are protected here in Florida, but it's a rare subspecies here.
They are probably a pest to someone, and need to be managed.....perhaps rice growers? I have no idea.

I didn't know they were hunted anywhere until I read your post. We have fed them by hand and they aren't too skid dish. We hear them all the time but they have never came on our property that I know of. Probably because of all the dogs around here. I knew it was illegal to feed them. We had those two that came every year and one year one of them had an injured leg. Some do gooder told us she was going to capture him and get him well. We didn't like the idea since the birds mate for life and the poor bird was probably traumatized having a towel thrown over it's head and bird napped. My wife was going to get her in a head lock and beat her severely so she called the Highway Patrol who showed up and told us, she was within her right and that he could arrest us for feeding them. We told him we don't feed them, we feed the sparrows. We can't help who else eats the corn.

I hadn't checked the game camera in a couple of weeks. This morning I changed out the SD card and had 4400 pictures. Most of them were does and coons eating corn at night, but I had about a hundred of these guys. Three nice bucks and a spike.

I saw a lot of these twins, too. Corn is alright for a while, but when there is milk to be drank... And one picture of them in the daylight. See how one still has spots and the other doesn't.

Great pics! Those bucks have pretty nice antlers and they still appear to be young, you might have some real trophies on hand in a few years.

I can't believe that doe is still letting those fawns nurse, too funny! My guess is that they were born in July or August instead of May and June when most are born, seeing as one still has spots.
