Craigslist tractor scam?

I cant imagine anybody, no matter how stupid, falling for these. Prices are always ultra low, and just stupidly written as stated above, like $2103. Always some BS story attached. Always going to ship. Have no idea why they bother putting the effort out.

The ads are "stupid" for efficiency. There is almost zero cost to the scammer until someone responds. Then he has to put in effort. Therefore, the scam is designed such that only the very gullible will respond in the first place. There are a million ways to make the "Nigerian" scams more credible but they don't change them because they don't want to waste time on smart people.

I picked up a barely used freshly tuned 120 CC Stihl chainsaw in pristine condition WITH a chainsaw mill, bar, chain, carrying cases, tools for $450. I think his wife told him to get rid of it.

In the days B4 Craigslist---our local newspaper had an add for a Browning shotgun, the auto 5 model that I liked, price was $60.00!
I ran as fast as I could cash in hand and gave the lady my $$'s.
As I was leaving she asked if I wanted the other barrel as well, Both were vent ribbed.

AS I was leaving the story as I understood it was that the husband was told he could not buy another gun unless he sold the browning first and since season was days away he had to be sure it sold!.
Yes, that was $60. c/w both barrels and mint condition. (one long for ducks and other for upland game)

Another 'find' was a Saur skeet grade 20 gauge that the lady wanted out because her boy friend dumped her for another gal.
That also set me back $60. I doubt that Saur shot more than a box, maybe 2 of shells.

Guess 60 is my lucky number!

Scams are for anything that costs several thousand or more that can be listed at too good to be true prices. This helps them complete one occasionally due to greed of the buyer. (complete before they wise up and Jack price to actual value)

I use Craigslist 3rd party app and look for same items listed in a wider area. Scams are listed everywhere and are obvious quickly. Just be careful sending your $ anywhere.

It's 1 thing to see it in person, it is a complete scam when seller requests transactions over the phone or through the mail. It is hard to believe people respond to these ads.

Notice when you want to see the tractor, it's always in a warehouse somewhere. Tell them you live a mile from that warehouse, an you will never hear from them again.

That may be legit. Scams I've seen are much cheaper and the are quick to respond.

i thought so too until i got a response. didn't answer any questions i asked, stated the "unit" is in T i'm in MD, i said thanks but no thanks/ got a response that said my email is blocked by craigslist so they can't send me pics.

I spotted a good CL tractor scam a few years back and had some fun with them. The tractor was a late model JD compact with backhoe, loader, brush cutter, box blade, and a tandem axle trailer for $3241...kind of an oddball price. I contacted the seller and as you already know it was at a warehouse in Chicago ready to be crated for shipping. I replied back with the good news that I was going to be in Chicago the very next day on business and could they please give me the address of the warehouse so I could have a look at it. You guessed it...never heard back from them. I had fun with it though and so did all my co-workers.

anything without a contact number and real price is a scam. Don't even send money period. After seeing this post I have been flaggin all the seattle area scams, up to 19 so far haha. Seems a little fishy when I search kubota and most are 10-15k then wow a great looking machine for 2137$.......

Also is a scam if they put an email in the ad and it is a weird email

From time to time I decide to pick on one of these scammers. The one that had me cracking up was a series of e-mails back and forth where I eventually got them to make a phone call. I told them I was at work, cell phones don't work inside the building, and we can't make long distance calls, so they would have to call me. I also used a name that anybody in the U.S. would know to be fake. After they agreed, I gave them the number to the local FBI office....pretty sure they didn't call back after the first try

Unless it's a local used car lot or something - any time there is a phone number or email that is displayed in a .jpg, (a photo) - the ad is bogus, intentionally designed to be untraceable. Legitimate sellers use the 'contact me through Craigslist' feature which shows their identity to Craigslist.
