The 6 footer I saw at TSC was made by Behlen, which the manager unsuccessfully tried to convince me was the parent company of, and really made by, King Kutter.

I purchased the King Kutter II at Orschln's.

Who is Belhen to King Kutter? Are they sister companies. My tiller from TSC says Behlen on the SN plate, but it came with a king kutter manual attached.

Either way mine was assembled, just had to cutter drive shaft to size and shazzam....i was tilling.:laughing:

I think it works great. Way better then my john deere 647. I sold the jd 647.

I looked on the net, found no connection between the two companies. The 6' TSC Behlen and the KK2 from Orschln's are different animals, not even close. Google King Kutter II image, compare to your Behlen and you'll see.

I believe when a equipment Mfgr gets a contract with one of the box stores, they produce according to the box store standards for a more competitive price advantage. Ken Sweet

Well I informed TSC that a tiller has but one job! And that is to work my garden, If I will not be using this tiller this year I will be returning it. I think the manager I have been talking to understands.

Wow Missouri Pioneer, looking at the condition of that gearbox & shaft...I can surely understand why you chose to be un-interested in that machine! I would have walked away no matter how much of a discount was offered. That looked nasty! Greg

Sure looks like the same they sell here....... which I assumed were made by Tarter. I've never noticed a Behlen sticker on them, but they look the same with the 'open' ends. Unlike the KKII, which none of the TSC carry around here.

Well TSC informed Tarter that the tiller was going to be returned and the the part was ship to the store the next day and all is well. As a side note Tarter tillers take 00 grease that you can not get at TSC. I found the grease at mower repair shops but it is not cheap.

This is one reason I bought my 3pt. tiller from my local dealer.It was fully assembled & delivered and ready to go.Yes it was a few hundred bucks more but less problems.No one really seems to care about service at the big box stores.coobie

So I don't know if this one is dead, but hopefully someone will pick up on it. I recently purchased a County Line 6' tiller from TSC. They had it on sale for $1599 so did some research and it wasn't rated too bad so thought I would save a few hundred bucks and go with it. In response to one question, yes, I had to assemble it, the frame was not already put together. Got it home and realized it didn't have the PTO shaft. 50 mile round trip and 2 hours later I finally had the shaft. TSC claimed they remove the shafts so they don't get stolen, although the 4' tillers still had the shafts on them. Partly my fault, should have thought of this. Anyway, after fighting to get the shaft cut to proper length and wire wheel polishing the inner shaft and greasing it just to try and get it into the outer shaft I had to use a few love taps with my hammer to get it in. It was still VERY tight. Didn't make for hooking up the PTO to tractor very easy as anyone who has hooked up a tiller knows there isn't much room in the first place. After less then 2 hours of use the u-joint connection at the tractor flew apart and the shaft dropped. The bearings on the u-joint had basically fell apart and the lower u-joint came off. Yes, they were greased. After a fair bit of reading I found that Tater was supposed to be the mfg for these. After getting a hold of them, and waiting over a week for a response they said Behlen is the mfg for the County Line tillers sold in KS. So now I have a request for help in at that place and waiting for a response. TSC doesn't sell the replacement PTO shafts with the clutch without ordering it in at over $300, and they don't see half shafts at all. I am hoping this will be covered under warranty. In the end, I guess my question is has anyone had any dealings with Behlen and how were they to work with?

Any input would be appreciated.

I think you should be dealing with tsc not belhen.

For example you don't go see Ford's parts supplier because the some random part failed, you go see a ford dealer.

Actually no, TSC said any warranty issues you need to deal with the MFG direct. That was my thought at first as well, but nope. Turned out well though. I called Belhen, they agreed they did make the equipment and VERY quickly said no problem, give me your address and we will ship you a new PTO shaft. I was pretty damned impressed. This is either great customer service, or they know they have a shaft issue, but I prefer to give the benefit of doubt and think it's great customer service.

Take the entire shaft off, go to TSC and demand a replacement! Don't take no for an answer! lol

BUT, NAPA may have a replacement u-joint, if you take the shaft to them to measure the U-joint...

Personally, I'd be heading to TSC with the shaft...

Glad you got your issue resolved.
My personal opinion is that King Kutter attachments are much better built than either Tarter Gate, or Belhen, and can be bought for the same price, or for less, than Tarter, or Belhen.
Of course there are attachments better built than KK also, but those are usually sold at a much higher price.
I think KK offers the best VALUE in most everything they build.
You can usually buy KK attachments from Blain's Farm & Fleet in Janesville, WI. for the best prices anywhere.
If you live outside WI. you will pay no tax, and Blain's has VERY CHEAP SHIPPING!
I live 1500 miles from Blain's, and the shipping on each of my 4 KK attachments was VERY CHEAP!

I bought a County Line 6' this spring, was the only one I could find locally that wasn't way out of my price range. Really do not have any complaints went together pretty easy, cut the PTO shaft per the instructions and have tilled about 4 acres. On one 1/2 acre section I found allot of trash, couple times an old car part got jammed up in the tines. Slip clutch worked as advertised with no damage to the tiller. Bought it at a brand new TSC that had just opened, guessing the tiller was pretty new and hadn't been sitting in the parking lot long enough to loose parts and rust.
