This is an opportunity for us to learn and adjust our productivity.

Visited with the crew that built my house and shop a year ago. They are building a new restaurant building in a small town near here. The windows and doors are backordered from Andersen with no expected delivery date.

Their hardware supplier has told them he expects six month delays on replenishing nail and staple stock.

Maybe we should reassess our World Trade philosophy?

Yeah, I think we should do a lot less world trading. and More buy American.

I struggle to understand that we can buy a nail made halfway around the world cheaper than one made in Kansas City.....

I sure hope you are not right. And I have this sinking feeling you might be...

Actually my point was/is...that the economy is just "interrupted" and not wrecked...if this virus cycles down in the next 90 days the economy could come booming back with the right type of stimulus...

Before this virus the market was ready for a correction...that is history now and there is/was no underlying faults...

Well, that is an interesting article. Hope it is right. I have been saying out the outset that the number of people who have it and have had it is huge. However I was ridiculed as a "denier" for some time. I have run hot and cold on this virus outbreak at times thinking "this is just another flu, maybe a bad one, but still the flu" to "batten down the hatches, we are in for it". I still don't know which is right or if the real answer is somewhere in the middle. BUT so far the the death toll in the US is VERY VERY small. And yes in a cold analysis, many of the people that died would have died anyway. and YES the seasonal flu in the time we have been tracking this has killed an order of magnitude greater numbers of people. I do know this much, you can wreck an economy in less than a month. That much I know for sure.

I agree with you on pretty much all you said. I have two clients we build for on hold, one on a let's see what happens, and another is a major healthcare provider so we are safe there. But, this is ridiculous in my opinion, to scare everyone into an apocalyptic cave and not give them a ray of hope. I told a client today, if it comes down to loosing everything I own or taking my chances with the virus, well... bring on the virus, I'm game. This isn't the movies where the virus turns you into a Zombie instantly; yes, we may have a few thousand people die from this, but no one seems to care how many hundreds of thousands die from alcoholism, drug addiction, smoking, or car accidents. Let's get a grip on this before we scare ourselves into oblivion...

DO YOU THINK ??? Ross Perot saw this coming, and yet... here we are. Beholden to a foreign nation for our where-with-all, and they have us by the short ones... Something has got to give.

We sure need to be making strategic materials at home. And that includes DRUGS for sure. NO MORE relying on China for our Drug supply, I don't care if the price of drugs doubles, we CANNOT rely on them for critical things. Yeah, rubber dog poop, ribbons and bows, even clothing, sure. But not drugs. Not after they threatened us like that, and have the means to carry out their threat.

There is no precedent for the interruption of the economy..
1940 .....

Maybe we should reassess our World Trade philosophy?

I've been saying that since the 60s when (economics, not politics) Nixon signed on with China. It was always wrong to put so much off-shore. We now have a similar problem with India that we could stop before we go too deep.

We have all learned a hard lesson when we can't supply the masks and drugs we need in a pandemic ourselves. I had no idea they made the majority of our drugs.. That was a shock. Color me nieve.

When the virus cases are doubling every few days, 7 weeks is a very long time. There was lots of denying going on before and after covid19 hit our shores.

A huge part of the blame can be laid at the feet of New York's Governor and New York's Mayor. New York City is one of the biggest international and domestic travel hubs it the US. With what had already started happening on the west coast as a clear example, they should have issued shelter in place (or similar) orders within a day of the first case in New York. They sat on their hands acting as if it were a west coast problem and when it hit the fan, the mayor blames the president. Neither acted very quickly in light of what was already happening in other places.

Ironically I visited that plant when I was back in school. it was something to see. I suppose it is long close down now.

The C-Suite Critters and the stockholders disagree. The follow the Ferengi code; the only motivation for profit is profit.

Yeah, and you may have notice the Ferengi are not a galactic power either. Subject to getting their protection from others. Like the Federation for instance. Always scarfing up on the money making from the suffering and wars of others, but Not providing an ounce of protection when the wolf is at the door (The Dominion) Where was the Ferengi fleet? There isn't one.

The C-Suite Critters and Stockholders don't have a fleet either. They buy and sell them from a number of countries under the guise of defense contractors, profiting off the suffering of others.

There is a lot more to that then what shows up on the surface.
Who do you think owns the largest hog production and processing company in this country, it's not American.
A great many of our factories and foundrys when they got shutdown and or sold got taken off shore to sell pieces back to us.
Foreign governments and or corporations own or control a huge portion of our countries food and mineral production and processing,
as well as manufacturing.

You never struck me as a Deep Space 9 kind of guy:laughing:
