The second US death has been reported, a man in his 70's at the same hospital as the first. They now believe that the virus has been floating around Washington for several weeks.

Out here we have a huge Asian population and due to proximity we have a lot of international travel to the Asian countries. Unfortunately when it comes to this virus. My wife and I have curtailed our trips to the big city and even when out and about, until this settles down. Grocery store trips include using the disinfectant on the cart handle, even though no cases have been reported in our county.

A few bullets and some good fuel will “buy” lots of beans and weenies!

It sounds like they have quarantined the first responders (25 people) who were going to the convalescent home where the first death and some of the other cases came from.

This is an interesting twist. Keep that up and we won’t have anyone to treat the patients. It will be interesting to see the plan for medical professionals who come in contact with Corona. But I’m thinking this model won’t work for long!!

That's pretty much what the WHO team observed in China, and China's response as described in the report I referenced above.

The WHO sent 25 international experts to China and here are their main findings

They observed that China threw massive resources at treatment:

"The mass and duration of the treatments overburdened the existing health care system in Wuhan many times over. The province of Hubei, whose capital is Wuhan, had 65,596 infected persons so far. A total of 40,000 employees were sent to Hubei from other provinces to help fight the epidemic. 45 hospitals in Wuhan are caring for Covid patients, 6 of which are for patients in critical condition and 39 are caring for seriously ill patients and for infected people over the age of 65. Two makeshift hospitals with 2,600 beds were built within a short time. 80% of the infected have mild disease, ten temporary hospitals were set up in gymnasiums and exhibition halls for those."

80% of the infected have mild disease, that's a bit of good news.

Glad it's on the other side of the continent. It can stay there....

New York has reported their first case so it sound's like you're right in the crossfire.

Plus he is in Michigan. Illinois has reported cases. Hardly the other side of the continent.

I would say that you're something... golden wasn't quite the word I had in mind though. A few spare ribs would have made that meal complete.

The radio this morning reminded me that good sleep helps your immune system stay in good shape to fight off the nasties.

If gold and silver are such great investments, why do the advertisers want to trade their gold for your dollars?

Because they are in the very short term trading business. Say gold is 1600 per ounce and you want to buy a US gold eagle....you'll pay 40-60 (depends on the dealer) "premium" over spot for the coin. Then if you sell it, you might get only 10-20 over spot for that same coin...that "spread" is the dealer profit. Same as stock market where brokers will get you the stock you want for a commission.....they make money whether you do or not.

As for gold, I can see buying gold coins - sort of. But, gold bullion I don't see. How are you going to trade it in without proof of it's purity? I wouldn't take a piece of paper as proof, and probably not even accept an assay mark on the bar. And how are you going to trade in a partial bar?

I'd agree. I like coins as well. The specs for all well known coins are easily found..( Gold Coin Specifications ).a current one ounce eagle, for example, weighs 33.93 grams, is 32.7 mm diameter and 2.87mm thick. In order to fake it with a plated, cheaper metal, one or more of those specs has to be off.

No clue as to why the metals talk is here. Do metals carry the virus? Do they cure it?

Dunno.....probably because SOMEONE helped the thread drift off into the stock market....who was that again ???

Once drift commences, like the virus, it's really hard to control. :D

The story goes that the market is spooked by supply chain interruptions. Manufacturing and transportation has been shut down in some of the Asian countries that make much of what we buy. There are already stories about US and Euro companies running into supply issue to be able to make larger component systems like HVAC. I think I read that some auto makers are having trouble getting parts to make cars.

It's not the bug itself, but the results of some governments trying to contain the bug.

We are having venison tonight. It was harvested it before this coronavirus thing but it might be infected with CWD. If my posts start getting silly you will know the cause.

Hot dogs are the only dogs I eat. There is a market in Atlanta MI that has great sales every week. One week they had 3lb packs of Oscar Myer hot dogs for $1. We bought 12 packs (36 lbs). We are a bit "prepper" inclined just in case stuff like this might happen.

Seriously, I hope all of you stay safe and are prepared as best as you can be. Much tougher to do in the cities, or you have kids in school, and if you work. This virus will not be contained, so it is a matter of just how bad it will be. It appears to be somewhat more serious than the flu bug we deal with every year. Anyone who thinks otherwise should ask themselves, "Why did the Chinese do all these handstands to address a flu bug?"

I see only two answers....It is serious....or...It is a scheme to crash the stock market and global economy. Of course, it could be both.
