All true. But again, my purpose is to hold a stash of REAL money. All paper promises hold an element of risk. The markets can clearly go way up or down in a given period. 10 Treasury notes are down to 1.4%....what a deal....give the govt your currency for 10 years, and get a rate of return several points under real inflation. Nah....I'll pass.

Truthfully, we are all just a little envious that you have it and we don't. :)

Yes, I believe increased testing may find many more hundreds if not thousands of cases. This is not like Ebola or something, many people have it that don't know they have it. They have a "cold" or "flu" or "feel under the weather". It is not like blood starts running out of your eyes or something. If you ask me, (and no-one did), this is somewhat overblown. This is a particularly bad strain of "flu", that may, and I use that word "may" carefully have a higher death rate than some of the other strains of flu we are used to. The population probably doesn't have much resistance to it as we don't eat a lot of dog and cat over here :). But if we start testing and finding out that thousands have it and have recovered on their own and thousands more still have it, that will LOWER the death rate considerably. Don't forget that regular (what ever that means) flu kills THOUSANDS of Americans each year, Many thousands. So far Covid-19 has killed one that we know of. Maybe more, we just don't know. I could be wrong of course, as I don't have a license to practice medicine. I do have a license to sell you health insurance though. :) And I did stay at a motel a couple of times. :)

You really should not eat cats. Nor dogs for that matter

Lewis and Clark ate dogs when they could get them. In fact they went out of their way to get them.

LoL...They likely ate a dog or two in desperation and by the time the story got to the 21st century they were connoisseurs of K9...!

Almost all history is based on witness accounts...ask any trial judge or lawyer how they regard eye witnesses...

1)There is no cure for the common cold

Yes but the zinc compound in cold-ez has been tested to reduce the severity and duration and can reduce the number of colds people get if taken regularly.

I wonder if it would have any effect on corona viruses?

Chris
I believe strong anti virals like Anti HIV drugs do have effect. -- Reserved for the severe cases. The mild cases are not worth treating; theyll be well soon anyway. Prevention is the key. Then it will die out.

In the mean time natural anti virals should increase personal resistance and thus inhibit transmission. Coconut, garlic, lysine, onion, olive extract, oregano oil, green tea . . . Lots of stuf. Some easy. :confused3:

Remember when Listerine was touted as preventing colds? My father kept a bottle in the greenhouse, and I remember seeing one in his dump truck. Then it came out that their claims were untrue, and it was just his active lifestyle which kept my father so healthy.

Odd considering the (perhaps) higher mortality rates attributed to obesity you don’t exactly see dieting paranoia.

Dang! Guys! I go away for a few days and the thread got locked again! Well, it seems to have settled down over the last day or so, so hopefully we can continue this conversation. I find it interesting and there've been some posts that caused me to stop and think for a while.

As for gold, I can see buying gold coins - sort of. But, gold bullion I don't see. How are you going to trade it in without proof of it's purity? I wouldn't take a piece of paper as proof, and probably not even accept an assay mark on the bar. And how are you going to trade in a partial bar?
