coolant replacement

My 224 now has 484 hours, bought new. I have never replaced the coolant, nor have I lost any yet. How often should this be done, and is there anything (tips) to remember when doing the job?

Any special coolant? And what's the mix ratio?

Just changed mine last week. Used FINAL Charge Global. 200 hrs on my 2007 Jinma Figured 4 yrs was enough time and remember Bob Rooks posting about his antifreeze filter (install) and how much sand is left over from the manufacturing process.

It was easy to do because you have an engine antifreeze drain valve located on the right side of the oil filter. Hardest part was finding the antifreeze. Originally was at Wally World but found it at Pep Boys. Check your prices, found $8 swing and only found the "ready mixed' that you don't add water to. If you do add water get some distillated water.

Agreed: Final Charge or equivalent - recommended for all diesel engines.

As for the coolant filter; it increases the efficiency of the coolant by keeping it clean and free from casting sand, prevents channeling and sludge build up around cylinder liners, and helps prevent premature coolant pump seal failure. These are found as standard equipment on virtually all larger machines.

I too have only found the 50/50, and also used to get it at WalMart for 9 bucks. For reasons we'll probably never know, they quit carrying it a few years back. Only place I can find it now is at Pilot freeway stations, and they get 12 bucks for it.
