I have one of the cheaper Cat 1 quick hitches that I picked up at my local Rural King. From looking at pictures, pretty sure it is very similar to the one HF sells. (different decal?)
When I use the Cat 3 adapters, they fit snugly into the lower hooks but the latch that pops out is quite a ways above the bushing and allows 1/8"+ vertical movement. For the folks that have a name brand quick hitch: Do the latches lock snugly against your bushings or do you have play? how much play?
Thanks

Not a big deal . As long as it seals up where pins cannot come out horizontally. I am used to cat 3/4 hitches and had no problems with a little clearance . Tolerance varies on these QH , DEPENDING ON manufacturer .

Doesn't matter. Remember you have no down force on the 3 point anyway.

Doesn't seem to be much if an issue with anything but my tiller, it really bounces and shakes when in hard ground.
Just wondering if the "better" ones were snug or if anyone had welded on the ends of the tabs to close up the gaps?

A tiller will do that . A little moisture helps a bunch .

I plan on tightening up my HF one because its just like yours.

Hi Doc,

Clearly you can and should do what ever makes you feel secure in your use, but fyi, despite my requests on every thread discussing the use of quick hitches, no one has been able to provide any plausible case where any of the available QH's has failed and caused damage or injury.

In fact, no one has come forward to display any evidence of a HF or other QH failure at all.

If I use Cat 3 the bushings they are tight fore & aft and the latch scrapes the bushing when it latches, but bushing will still move up & down because of the angle of the latch tab once it is closed. I just use Cat 2 to make latching easier, that little bit of movement doesn't bother me. The convenience of QH out ways the free-play.
