Carrying stuff

I'd love to hear (and see pictures!!) of what people have come up with to carry stuff on their tractors.

There have been some great notes on ways people have attached tool boxes, and of course the magnetic coffee cup, but what about ...

- A chain saw? Has anyone rigged up a way to carry one?

- Chains? Mine sit on the operators deck and eventually get in the way of the control peddles.

- Misc hand tools like shovels, clippers, rakes, etc.

I'm primarily interested in ways to carry such things WITHOUT impeding tractor operation in any way, so throwing the rakes and shovel and chains and chain saw in the loader bucket the way I'm doing it now doesn't count.

I'm with you-- some kind of carryall is needed. I'm working on a design for a trunk that will mount on the 3 pt hitch. Easy on, easy off, removable rainproof lid, capable of carrying tools or it could be filled with concrete blocks to act as ballast while using the FEL. Cost should be less than $100. Anyone interested in one?

I put a deck and sides on my box scraper. It holds about 800 lbs of rocks. Any tools I want to carry just sit ontop of the rocks. I'll try to get a picture of it.

A place to carry chains. An ammo box works even better- heavier, not as wide and the lid has a built in lock that's waterproof. Drill a few weep holes in the bottom

Saw this one, and thought it wouldn't be too hard to make....and pretty reasonable to buy also depending on whether shipping is an issue. Not weather proof at all, but I'm not sure I would want a permanent lid. I like the photo with the rough tote plastic box attached.

I'm with you. Saw a neighbor who mounted big hooks on his ROPS to carry his towing chain, but removing the chain was a pain since it always seemed to snag his SMV or 3pt implements. Also saw a fellow who carried a shovel back there using a ROPS-mounted rifle rack and some bungee cords.

The thing I'd most like to carry would be my chainsaw. I've seen pics of a chainsaw holder for ATVs, but it doesn't look like it would mount to the ROPS very well without serious mods.

I echo the sentiments of you all. I've only had my BX 2 weeks but I am always in need of a place to carry a chain and a tool or two. I'm not an engineer so I'd like to "capture" someone else's solution. What are you BXer's doing?

Here's the approach that works for me (see series of 3 photos in this and related posts). I have the equivalent of a "pickup" box that I carry on pallet forks. The fork frame also has removable racks (yellow and black) on each side to hold shovels, rakes, pitchforks, etc. For loader ballast, I always have several old wheel weights in the box. When hauling loose materials such as mulch I take them out. The box is very handy for carrying tools, firewood, fuel cans, slings, etc, and I keep it on the tractor most of the time. The forks and tool racks were manufactured by a company called Attachments Plus in Michigan. Not sure they are still in business, but any pallet mover or carryall could be the starting point for fabricating your own pickup box. I built my box as a flatbed with removable sides. Hope this provides some ideas for your own inventions.
