Ok. I know you guys got to be getting tired of this thread by now! You just have to be but I'll still ask the question, do you guys want to see the totally worthless mod I'm just about to complete? If you do you got to promise you won't laugh at me :mad: you can laugh with me though :laughing:

Somehow I find it hard to believe that anything you do could be totally worthless. :)

Hi Paul this has been an AWESOME thread, I wish you were my neighbor! I have a MOD request for your BX, a parking brake indicator light, you did it on your other Kubouta. Today I did something I though I could never do, jumped off by BX left it running so I put the brake on, yup I forgot after getting back on and mowed for an hour or so before I realized I left the brake on. Everything seems to be okay don't know what damage that could have caused, I hope none. I know I'm not the only on that has done that one. The second thing I thought was what would Paul do for a parking brake light. Thanks for all your other great ideas, Dan.

Ya this ones the worthless one but I wanted to do it for the cool factor. It will be up shortly.

Hey Dan glad you enjoying the thread. I figured the moderators would have me booted off by now posting all these photo's :eek: Anyways, Sorry to hear about your mishap. That's happened to all of us and that's why I did the mod on the 5740 and I'm happy to report I never went with the brake on since. If your tractor feels good now after that you'll be OK.
I wonder if an alarm on a BX be better than a light? On a sunny day would a light be seen? Just thinking out loud here. Anyone got any suggestions on which is better on a tractor. A light or an alarm or both? Maybe I'll make that the next mod and I'll detail the steps for you.
Might take until next week to do it. I need to round up some parts. Nice Mustang in your avatar. I have a weakness for those cars :thumbsup:

Well my 4240 had them. The 5740 got them so the BX do now as well. Yes it's been done before but I don't care. I wanted to see them on the little fellow. Now he looks like his dad.
They started out a John Deere fenders and ended up something else. Made it out of left over 1/8th plate and 1 flat bar and it's strong.
Now for those who just might want to copy this design please keep in mind that I have Bro-Tek wheel spacers on my tractor so without wheel spacers it would be a totally different design. I know the machine won't go fast enough to flick mud off the tires. I know some might not like it but cool with that. Heck, I'm the first one to call this mod worthless but Cool ;)

Well, if the "guys" are getting bored, this girl is NOT!

And there must be something about the 3 AM time. I think that is when best solutions come. Go figure!

Yes, TOTALLY cool, 4shorts! And sort of neat you have a little Deere in ya now too! :laughing:

The tractor turned out really awesome.. Although, I still think you're missing a few options! :)

Here's a couple more really cool BX modifications that I'm sure you could definitely perfect with your skills:

* Front Fenders

* Hydraulic Backhoe Thumb

* Bucket Grapple

(Just mentioning it in case you're bored! :) )

I thought about fenders but decided against it because in a wooded environment they would be easily damaged especially with such small wheels as on the BX. If I get really bored later on I may design a set of flexible front fenders anyway plus a set of rear fender extensions.

The Bucket grapple is out for me due to the extra weight it adds to the FEL and the effect it has on the lifting capacity. I have pondered building one out of aluminum though and that would possibly work.

The hydraulic thumb is a definite possibility. I haven't used the mechanical thumb yet so I'll decide after I put some time on the machine.

I have a few more mods to do with the machine but the shop is gone crazy busy and I just don't have the time to dedicate to them at the moment but I'll eventually get back at it. Thanks for the links. Much appreciated.

I just *knew* it! :thumbsup: Great job with the fenders they look like they came from the factory!

Although, I'm still waiting to see what you come up for a hydraulic backhoe thumb! ;)

All kidding aside, you have amazing fabrication skills. It's very humbling to see your work and how nice it comes out. Thanks for sharing it with everyone on the forum. I'm sure I speak for most folks here in saying that I'm always looking forward to see what you come up with next for your BX!

Nice work on fabricating the mounting brackets, Paul. The fenders really set off your BX nicely. Nothing worthless with this mod my friend, I like it! :thumbsup:

Oh I do my best thinking at 3 in the morning. Really do.

Thanks. Oh Deere. I never thought about the Deere part :D

I dont know about that, Our BX2660 will go fast enough to sling mud and slop off of the front tires...
Looks great (as usual).

You may be right. If you are then this mod wasn't totally useless :)

:laughing: ya. You planted the seed lol. Not sure about the skills you talk about but I seem to get lucky with metal working at times. I got a few more mods. I will eventually do a hyd thumb mod and a few others but it might be this fall before I get back at it. I love hearing that TBN members are enjoying this stuff and thanks for that.

Nice fenders!

And yup, believe it or not a BX can go fast enough in high range to kick up a bit of mud on a dirt road!

I've started on a brake warning project and have got as far as getting a very bright LED light. Wondered about an alarm but having it sounding off while I'm away from the machine might get old fairly quickly. That is assuming I can hear it with ear protection on.
Have spent a lot of time lying on the ground looking up trying to work out where and how I can mount the switch, and what type(Yeah I know On/off) Maybe I should wait until 3am and go out and have another look. :)

It probably wouldnt be that hard to hook up a light/alarm to the BX. A microswitch or limit switch (similar to what paul used for his backup alarm) mounted to contact the locking arm when the brake lock is pushed to the floor would be all that is needed.

Im still trying to get my head around a BX being able to overpower the parking brake! I know on mine it will hold the tractor stationary under power. If I floored it in low range, it may move, but Id sure feel it in my seat!

Ya I did the same mods on the banana bikes. I used to take another set of forks and jam them over the bikes forks and I had an instant chopper :laughing: hey it was the slickest thing around :rolleyes:
Not sure about those two items you posted on a BX. Might look ok on my GoldWing though :laughing:

There's a few ways to do it (alarm/light) but if that brake is set you got to know its on unless he just had it set on the first notch of the parking brake cam. He might not notice it then. If it was full on then that poor little tractor put in a hard hours work :eek:
I tried mine with the brake on and its already got an alarm. The HST screamed at me when I went to move the machine! Rethinking the idea of the warning. It may not be necessary if the brake set set enough.

Thanks buddy. I was having my doubts about the fenders until you showed up and we got to sizing them up. You and I are usually on the same page when it comes to this sort of stuff then when Gordon came in as we were looking at the possibilities he said he liked them so I said I'd do it.

I think I'll call it done for now and come back in the fall to do the other two or three mods you and I talked about. Their going to take some time in figuring, fabricating and fitting but will make a better tractor out of the Kubota BX25D. If its nice out Sunday (tomorrow) I'll drop by and have a look at what you got done around your property. Time to take the GoldWing out for a spin :thumbsup:

There's nothing like getting up at sun up and sitting on the porch swing watching the sun rise and the birds starting to chirp and pondering some design or little thing that your trying to work out. No doubt about it. It's the best time of the day. I also appreciate my internet friends such as yourself giving me the encouragement to continue so thanks for that. :)

OK boys and gal :D This will be my final mod. Well it's really not a mod but just an extension of a mod. It's one I wanted to share with you because I have never seen it mentioned on TBN before. Mrs. 4shorts is now into "Doming" Yup, she sure is. What's "Doming" you ask? Well Doming is when you take a special two part epoxy that's UV rated and won't yellow in the sun and with a special gun you can turn your decals into an emblem. By now you much realize I'm not "Normal" and yes I got excited seeing this done and came up with a hundred ideas of where it could be used so Wifey "Domed" the decals on the fenders for me. She did some Kubota decals and even Domed some 30th Anniversary decals to put on "Candy" (she's our Ford Mustang):D

So I'll end the mods with this info and some photo's and I hope the photo's do the "Doming" justice. I'll be around to answer any questions though.

Another round of mods might start in the fall. Will it be more of the BX? might be. Will it be another tractor? might be. Will it be a Kubota? Might not be ;)
