Mom's having memory problems and I find it can get me anxious correcting things that she has said... to neighbors, friends, doctors, etc.
She was charge nurse for many years and was very sharp and still has contact with some of her nurses going back decades.
It's hard when I have to correct her on her meds and keep track... she will always be the nurse.
I wish she would come live with me... for me it would mean less worry and for her... she would have what she needs and less panic situations.
This morning, she called and said she was out of her eye drops for glaucoma... I called the Pharmacy and the pharmacist said she had picked up two orders in the last 3 weeks... normally I take care of that.
When I checked... I found two unopened bottles each in a different place.
It is hard to know just how much help to give without overstepping...
Don't get me started on Telemarketers... she gets many calls each day and some are really slick. Last Saturday she had two back to back when I was there... on both, she said talk to my son... one just hung up and the other wanted to sell her new windows and had special pricing only good that day...
Making sure her bills are paid has helped a lot... I just toss all the solicitation that would make her feel bad for dubious charities.
I did change her answering machine message and told her if it is important the caller will leave a message...
Message: If you are a telemarketer hang up now... this number is on the do not call list and all marketing calls are monitored and reported to the Attorney General for prosecution... if you are not a telemarketer... kindly leave a message...
So far the number of messages has dropped by 90%
