BX22 Glow Plug Removal & Compression Test

I went to adjust the valves to address a misfire problem and attempted to remove the glow plugs, as I had been advised, to make it easier to turn the flywheel.

I had no problem unscrewing one glow plug, but it would not come out of the hole with amount of force I was willing to apply. So, I had to turn the flywheel with them in place. It was really quite easy, with little variation, which concerned me.

Is it normal on a 1000 hour tractor for the glow plugs to take a LOT of force to remove?

Should it be, as I would expect, difficult to turn the flywheel with the glow plugs in place?

I am a diesel mechanic and turn engines over manually everyday with glow plugs and injectors still installed. I suspect after a 1000 hours of use, they are probably swollen.

So, just pull harder on the glow plugs, or??? Also, does the lack of "variable" effort indicate a potential compression problem?

Pull harder or depending on the type/style, you can buy a glow plug extractor.

I would have to see a visual picture of the glow plug installed to recommend a puller.
