Today I moved about 5 yards of crusher run and I noticed that my tractor "shudders"/slips(?) when I'm going to pick up material from the pile, and it also does it when I'm moving around on the pad that I'm making. I've never had this shuddering/slipping issue before. It's comparable to wheel hop but the tires aren't spinning. I checked the trans fluid and it's fine and doesn't smell at all. My tractor has 480 hours, been meticulously maintained, and I have my leaf bagging system, mowing deck, and FEL on so maybe that's (too much weight) causing the problem??? Any ideas:confused:

I hope its not this :

Thanks for the link to your old post. After reading it, I'm thinking (and hoping) that my tires may be slipping on the rims because they are fluid filled and I do have a lot of weight on the tractor with the bagging system and mowing deck on too. I'm having absolutely no hydrualic issues whatsoever; I've been lifting full buckets of crusher run without it skipping a beat. The shuderring does happen anytime there is a lot of resistance regardless of going forward or reverse and it happens in low and high. I'll change the filter tomorrow if I can get one and also check for the tire slippage.

Just curious if you ever got your problem resolved, and if so, what it was and how much it cost. Thanks for the great info.

I had the transmission replaced because cost would have been almost as much to remove, fix and reassemble as it was to just change out. And it would have been a worn trans. I kept the old trans and look forward to checking it out when I have the time.

Tranny replaced!!! Ouch.....I hope that's not my problem as my tractor has less than 500 hours. If it is my tranny, what should I expect the bill to be?

around $1500

Thanks, when I figure it out I'll report back.

I know it sounds like a stupid question, but do you have 4WD engaged? If you do and you are on a hard surface, the front wheels could be putting the drivetrain in a bind which would cause a shudder or "bucking" effect.

Yup, does it in 4WD too. Tomorrow I am going to take the FEL off and mow the lawn and I'll report back afterwards. I also plan on changing the tranny fluid/filter and cleaning the screen next week.

This is what I was wondering as well, I think you misunderstood his question. He was stating that having it in 4WD on a hard surface can cause this type of problem because the front wheels and the back wheels are working at different ratios when the front tires are turned especially. He wasn't asking if it does it in 4WD, he was stating that if you were in 4WD it could cause this problem. So the question would be does it happen in 2WD?

Yes, it happens regardless of whether you're in 2 or 4WD. Today I took the FEL off and mowed the lawn and it's still doing the same thing when you put a heavy load on it.

I checked my maintenance records and the last time my tranny fluid/filter was changed was at 200 hours; I'm at 480 now. I just ordered a shop manual, so hopefully I'll be able to figure out what's going on. Do you have any insight???

Is there any feedback thru the pedal? Those hrs are low. Should be no maintenance related problem.

I did notice that when I let off the pedal it doesn't seem to stop nearly as abruptly as it usually does. What type of pedal feedback are you talking about?

My BX23 did and had the same problem but I had little notice of the problem and when it went it killed the engine. I used the BH to drag it to the trailer and onto it. I was lucky my unit was just out of warranty with over 500 hours and the dealer made it right with a new one.

The pedal resists as you push it. When mine chattered the pedal resistance changed with it unmistakeably.

My engine runs real strong so I don't think that's the issue.....but thanks for the input.

I have zero pedal resistance. So you had the "shuddering" issue and the pedal resistance at the same time, and then your tranny went?

You must have pedal resistance. Check in gear with engine off vs on. Mine sure feels different between the two. You dont notice it til you dont have it.

Yes I do have normal pedal resistance but it is not at all noticeably different than before I had the shuddering issue. Did your pedal increase/decrease when you noticed the shuddering?

pedal resistance decreased when it shuddered. Almost like it falls to the floor with only the return spring resisting. I had to let up and push down again to get hydraulic "connection".
