Buying on Ebay

I want to purchase the Echo 2500T battery saw. It is very expensive even without the battery and charger. There are several sellers on ebay with brand new, in the box ones for far cheaper. The price difference seems worth the risk but the sellers all have high ratings. Am I taking a huge risk here? Not a big ebay shopper so looking for some advice.

I think Ebay is pretty good about backing up the buyer if the seller is not selling an item that is misrepresented in the description. But my Ebay buying has dwindled significantly since Amazon and Marketplace came along.

I bought an echo gas saw from ebay. No issues. I forget what time of year, but echo dealers have pretty good discount about once a year.

Read and understand everything in the descriptions and look at the photos. A simple word substitution can make all the difference in the world with an ebay purchase, which makes a "way out" of them selling you what you thought you were buying. I bought a name brand item one time on ebay that in the description mentioned it was a Yuasa type. That got me a counterfeit item. Just read it and be sure, don't just rely on your search tab.

Sellers complain that eBay is TOO buyer-biased. Protection of the buyer is paramount.

Note that often, if you are buying something new, the eBay seller is the same as one on Amazon. Their eBay price is usually a bit lower.

Longtime eBay buyer here (since 1998), and infrequent seller. Bought both used Husky 2100s on eBay.

Have used Ebay for 20 years or more. Never a problem, maybe a couple of days later than stated for delivery but always received it. Lately mostly buy from Amazon, can have same item usually in 1 or 2 days instead of a week for less than a dollar more, so if item needed quickly it comes Amazon

Not related to original questioni but thought I might ask since this has some eyeballs.

VERY infrequent seller on ebay. Seems if you now sell enough volume, I suppose they are going to issue a 1099??

If that's accurate the next might make sense. I normally use my desktop for things (like now for example). Other day, on my phone, I had an ebay contact.... long story short, it said to update my account, they need my FULL SSN number. I will say, they DID show the last 4 digits of my ssn AND, I seem to recall the commentary about having income reported if it exceeded an amount. So this might make some sense to me but, I'm always wary of giving out my SSN.

I might add.... I just got done selling some kind of insulated bag for the wife and it was after this sold that I got the notice. So there are several 'pointers' that by shear timing suggest it's legit.

We got a 1099 for my wifes sales.

It was wrong of course, good luck correcting it.

But the selling went as promised, they forget to mark off a failed sell when a buyer backed out.
So it got counted on the 1099, even though they counted the real sale that happened a few days later.

Amazon has no battery tools with easy returns. Used it several times myself.

I went ahead & logged into ebay and indeed, I have a message from them stating that they need my full ssn and dob (or something other)
