Building A small pull pan Type scraper

Problem with those V levellers is that i cant push dirt into the dead furrow close to the fence, after i have ploughed a horse pasture. They work great to maintain small dirt roads on farms, to fill the wheel ruts. Except for that, they arent used very much in Holland.

I've looked at the durabilt scraper, and it looks like a very nice design, simple and easy. I still question myself if it wouldnt be easier to have a fixed blade scraper with a pivot point behind the blade, to make the blade depth indifferent to the pan dump movement.

Renze Ive used an 18 yard Reynolds fixed blade pan. They arent as heavy duty as the others But then again im not a fan of the large pulltypes either. It does make dumping on grade a bit easier becacuse the blades stayes where its at through the whole cycle and ou dont have to raise it. The paddle wheel at work the bowl slides back and the plate comes forward. In a perfect world with out wear this is the same thing as a fixed blade but not on our machine. Thats why I like a forced ejection scraper its the same principle as a fixed blade. But again a dump type ejector is simpler to build. On alot of jobs with tractor pans youll see all the front pans be movable dump bowls with the trailing pans havin a fixed blade to mop up.

BTW has anyone seen the Miskin air assisted scraper ? it makes the dirt boil up in the bucket by loosening it by shooting a blast of air through the dirt through openings in the blade. They get full loads with a half size smaller tractor than without air assist..

Renze I probably went on rambling again lol. What I meant is a fixed cutting edge scraper hasnt got the resilience of a dump bowl scraper and a dump bowl has a few draw backs to an ejector type. The fixed edged can break at the mouldboard in if it encounters an imovable object. I used to have a 20 inch diameter hydraulic ram that was 2 feet long to straightn the bowls and moldboards on pull type scrapers. We've seen some the bowls get pulled down or warped so bad that the pins they pivot on would come out of the scraper frame. That only happens when you find things like large pilings in the ground Most tractor pans load using momentum rather than pure grunt. So when you strike an object sometimes alot of damage can occur. I mainly run a paddle wheel scraper finishing or and ejector when i have to run a scraper but over the last few years ive logged alot of time with a tractor and pan combination. They both have advantages and disadvantages to. Ive actuall seen and air scraper work it was neat watching it but the man that bought his said somtimes mainenance was a night mare with the compressor.

O.K. I see your point now: I already had my thoughts on how to make the blade as thin as possible to keep the traction requirement low, yet strong enough to take an impact of a tree stub or piece of rock, without disaligning the big hinge, which is as wide as the bucket. with a 3 meter long pivot pin it takes just a little deformation to jam it.

Anyways an ejector scraper is too expensive to build and a simple dump bowl has very little use in the Dutch land levelling business. Next to that, in our rock free soil the collison damage risk is very low, and our 50 and 70 hp tractors will just stop and dig in with a 5 yard pan if it hits something...

Boy aint that a cutie!! I wonder if he can fill it using that ATV?
If it does in good dirt they may be able to move 40 or more yds a day. Wouldnt that be wild to build rds and level acres and when the neighbors how you pointed to the atv!!
