Did you guys get a chance to check out the last 2 videos I added?

What do you think about the PTO shield? Should I let it free spin, or should I add small chains to keep it from rotating??

I don't keep the chains on mine, it wears out the bearings on the shielding. Just keep it greased and loose so if someone does come in contact with it the shielding can stop independent of the shaft.

I don't know if I ever shared this with you or if you've seen it in another thread but I had a Bushhog 306 that was much like yours until I made a few slight modifications. Those old mowers like you've got are as tough as nails!

I cut a few trees 5" in diameter with this one...

That's what I was thinking. At $23 a set, those plastic bearings are kind of overpriced IMO.

Yup, that elevated gear box on it's own frame is the dead giveaway! Good looking mower, I like that push bar you rigged up, must be handy when backing the mower over bigger stuff.

Finally finished editing the video of me testing out the bush hog, almost busted my radiator, but other than that, it worked well.

The internet is slow here tonight for some reason so I couldn't finish it, but from what I saw it looked like it was doing good.

One thing I noticed though was the chains in your front guard flipping up on top of the deck. You can take a small cable and run through the chain links about half way down the length of the chain to stop that if needed.

Yeah, I goofed and forgot Part 9, so I pulled Part 10 off you tube, and will post 9 first. The chains are a little too long. when I first started cutting, the blade tips were hitting the chains, as the brush pushed the chains back.

I quit using chain curtains a long time ago. Down here in the South it's a lot less dusty in the summertime with rubber belting instead.

I'm wishing I knew how dusty it gets, then I would have done the same. Another thing I learned is I may want to start wearing a dust mask. Stuff I'm breathing in cannot be good for allergies, or just in general. Also makes me wonder about when I'm mowing areas with poison ivy

That could be a problem if your very allergic. I work for the U.S. Forest Service through the summers during my college years. One day a crew responded to a wildfire and had to send a guy to the hospital because the fire was burning through a lot of poison ivy and he had a major reaction from the smoke, it was down in his lungs and everywhere.
