Those hawks will probably become good pets, they'll follow you around looking for field mice in the freshly cut areas.

Was out cutting again today, and 3 were circling around the area. Can't help but admire them.

Did you here the cutter tips hitting the chains at the beginning??

Yeah, if I were you I'd find a local farmer and see if they have some used belting from a hay baler that they would be willing to part with cheap. If you lived a little closer I've got plenty I could give you...

I figured I'd see if removing one link from the end of each chain will fix that issue. truth be told, lack of a working frony guard has not turned out to be much of an issue. I've got that metal screen welded to the ROP to protect me, and the occasional projectile seems to fly out the side/rear area.

But I will keep an eye out for the belting, or other suitable material, too help keep the smaller stuff from going up my nose! :D

I noted from the video that you dont have an articulated, lost motion, joint at the top 3point connection. This would allow floating the Hog on the tail wheel and lift arms - very handy. Some use a chain in place of the top link to do this. Easy to give it a try that way ... then you could make a limited lost motion bracket if you like it.

I see where that might make sense, like when you want to follow the contour of a slope. I think a couple guys mentioned even leaving the top link disconnected when cutting, only issue there is having to get off the machine whenever you want to lift the rear of the cutter, like when returning home when finished. I also thought i saw a coupling somewhere that would allow the toplink to pivot some, but I can't remeber what is was called, or where I saw it. I wonder if a clevis could be used to get a similar effect??

305's and 306's have a short chain mount bracket bolted to the front center of the deck that provides additional chain/blade clearance. IIRC it protrudes 6-8" and is radiused similar to the blade tip path.

I've seen pictures of what you describe on newer Bush hog models. I do not think mine ever had such a setup, but then again my 305 is much older. The BH tech support guy said he could not make any sense out of my serial number, he said it was differant than all serial numbers he has seen. He even theorized I may have an early prototype.

Thanks,
Steve.
