I am looking to purchase a box blade to level dirt, maintain a drive way etc.. My Kubota dealer wants $900.00 for a 6' Woods. I found the Kingkutter at a cheaper price. Is there a huge difference and does anyone have a suggestion as to the best brand or model to get?

There are quite and I do mean quite a few posts about box blades here. I suggest you get yourself comfortable and do the search engine. You be reading your screen for a long, long time. For myself I wanted a boxblade that was heavy, had good welds, paint, and steel), captured lower links, and had scarifiers that were easy to adjust with my gloves on. I found a BB that satisfied me although it was expensive (but cheaper than the competing brands). Jay

PS: KK's newer line of HD BB's with a floating tailgate appear much better made than the other models.

I'm in Ohio and just ordered a 65" Woods BB for $755.00 thru my Kubota dealer. If I recall, the price he quoted me on the 72" one was only a few dollars more. You may want to shop around a little. I looked at a bunch of box blades and went with the Woods. Probably way more than I need, but the quality is visable.

I have the 6' KK on my L-2800 Kubota and I do not know how folks do without one. It does a great job and is well built. Those scarfer forks realy do a number on big rocks and hard surface roads. I finish up with a 6" KK rock rake and my roads look fantastic and almost as smooth as any road grader could get.

I just pulled the trigger on a Woods GB 60 BB...$725 + $60 delivery (20 miles) + $42 taxes. Seemed like a good price, and the other dealer I called would not go below $850 for it.

This will be for levelling a newly cleared 3.5 acre parcel for planting as pasture. The tiller will have to wait, as much as I would like to just buy all the toys now.

I won't argue with woods, but you could look at KK as well. I bought a brand new Taylor Pittsburg one at auction for 400. It is pretty heavy and solidly built. I figured for 400 for a several hundred pound 6' one was worth it. taylor Pittsburg and KK are sister companies by the way. I'm not trying to convince you of buying one, just laying out another option.

Always look at upcoming equipment auctions in your area (and ebay) prior to running out and buying one from a lot. I support my dealer, and my dealer is helpful, but money doesn't grow on trees.

Seems like new 6' atlas box blades went for $300-$400 at the farm equipment auction last Fall. I see people asking that much for used ones. An auction is the best place to buy. For what your dealer wants, you could probably get a couple of items at auction.

I've just put an order in for a 6' Woods. Looking forward to getting it for spring work on the drive.

I got the KK 6' flip tail unit and have used it a lot I made a lot of turns with it and that's not recommended to do. I've not busted or bent anything yet. I put in a new home and have done most all the landscaping with it. I paid $525 for it 2 yrs. ago. bjr

i have a gannon box, and if you have enough hp. it is a very good way to go, it hydraulicly lowers the teeth to ripp hard ground out and it rocks back on the back flap and raises the inside cutting edge and allows you to grade out all the material in the box. i have a cylinder for my center link on the 3pt, and if i shorten the cylinder it lowers the cutting edge and cuts the high spots out then on the fly i lenghen the cylinder and it will grade out all the gravel in the box without raising the box with the 3pt. hope i did not confuse you to bad.

In the way of a follow up. I ended up with the Woods HB 72" and so far it has been great. I have been able to level the dirt floor in the pole barn (soon to be compacted limestone) and have found the balance for FEL work great. I like the build and heft of the box and the overall quality of this box blade. Only time will tell how much use I will get out of it, but I anticipate a whole lot as my to-do list keeps getting bigger!

I wouldn't worry too much about name brand. Find one with thick side walls, heavy tines, and reversible blades on the inside and on the rear. Alot of the new king kutters I've been seeing look really flimsy to me.

Leon Wittner, how does your l2800 handle the 6 ft blade? I have Yanmar 30 hp and am looking at a 6' bush hog sbx72 blade. what do you think? mine is 2wd. thx.

I have a BH SBX650 that I use on my TC34. (35HP hydro) BH doesn't get a lot of credit for their boxes, but I am really satisfied with mine. (paid $550, new-but slightly-aged inventory)

Unless I really needed to cover my tracks or needed lots of edge on the outside (like ditching, fencelines, or such), I would stay closer to 5 1/2' box. But this may just be a good setup for my machine. A light 6' box, depending on your primary application may work well for you.

Too deep a cut can bog down the smaller compacts pretty fast. There are several factors that go into this though. Application, Soil condition/type, tractor weight, transmission type, and gearing probably are as important or more important, than just the HP.

Hope this helps,

Rich
