Blizzard on the way

Calling for 11 to 15 inches of snow here in Kansas City by Tuesday night. Temps by Thursday supposed to be -12...

18F degrees, north wind 23, gusting to 35 mph, everything covered with an inch or two of sleet and ice. No temperature above 30 degrees forcast until Friday. The DFW airport, county offices, schools, and many businesses closed today.

A couple of hours ago, some of the precipitation was still a damp mist. I opened the door to let the Chihuahua out, she barely stuck her nose out (she hates water and getting wet), and refused to go out. So about an hour ago, I tried again, but this time, I stepped just outside the door so she followed. Then she ran out, staying as close to the house as possible, took care of business, and came right back.

Down here in South Central Louisiana, there is no snow. Come on down and ENJOY (especially Mardi Gras) however you may want to leave before the summer temps get to 110 and the humidity is 100% and you gasp for every breath!!! Enjoying the cold for now----belah:thumbsup:

It rained here starting at about 10 pm last evening. At 10:30, we had a pea sized hail storm that left our driveway covered with hail and then only rain after that until about 3:00 am when the rain changed mostly to sleet and soon snow. This morning I have 4" of snow on my decks and the wind is swirling snow around between my house and the road in an open area. It looks like hundreds of white tornados. My temperature gage says 13.5 F and the NWS website says Bowie, TX is 14 degrees, so I think my gage is accurate. Wind is really gusting and the snow is swirling, but it is supposed to be over within another hour. Thank goodness I am retired and can stay inside. We lost power only for an instant last night and I have two 10 kw generators sitting at the ready in my garage with plenty of fuel and extension cords. For now, I'm good.:D

EDIT: I don't think I made it clear above. The snow will stop, but we are supposed to have this wind and gusts up to 50 mph all day today. Brrrr!

In Prince Edward County we're expecting a foot of snow and strong NE winds. Not the worst of conditions but it will set up drifts perpendicular to the prevailing winds. Next time it snows with a west wind we'll drift in pretty quick.
I've got a full can of diesel and I boarded up the house that I'm framing. Too bad I didn't get the roof sheeted yet. :(

Up to 12" predicted for Toronto, with high winds and low temps. Man, could I have fun on my street if my tractor was down here instead of 2.5 hours away at the cottage!:licking:

Freezing rain ended last night. This morning periods of sleet or snow, right now back to snow. The snow I don't mind, predictions are for up to 12 inches :) . It the 1/2 to 1 inch of sleet that's down already :(

The two pictures below show the street in front of our house. Pretty early this morning, I saw a white pickup going north at what I'd estimate to be about 25 mph. Later I've seen two cars going south at perhaps 15 mph. But a few minutes ago, my wife said a motorcycle went north at a high rate of speed.

Probably not for very long! very hard to stay up on 2 wheels in snow at any speed.

I think the "storm" has moved on east from here. We have some sun and it's warmed up from 16F to 19F, but not supposed to get above freezing before Friday. I was curious as to how much "precipitation" we got. I know it started as rain, so my rain gauge had some solid ice in the bottom, then snow & sleet up to just above 3 inches. So I brought it in the house and thawed it to find almost exactly one inch of water.

That's the sort of thing you do when the weather's too bad to do anything else and you're sitting around bored.

And watch motorcycles trying to navigate the street.:laughing::laughing:

We have snow falling now in central Maine. But, the bigger one hits tomorrow.....8" to 14" forecast with 20+ mph winds.

Snowing here now as well, but the same forecast as JD for tomorrow. Sounds like a good time to wax the tractor. OK, maybe just the hood..
