I’m refurbishing an old Bush Hog 145 offset disk. It is 6’ wide and has 8 blades on each gang with 9” spacing. I’m replacing all the blades with new scalloped blades. My owners manual shows both 22” and 24” blades. Which would you recommend? What are the differences in how the disk will perform with 22” vs 24”?

Theoretically the disk pans could penetrate 1" deeper using 24" pans over 22" pans. Draft resistance produced by the offset disk will increase in proportion. I will take a guess that your potential soil penetration will be APPROXIMATELY 8".

22" scalloped pans should penetrate about the same depth as 24" smooth pans.

My personal experience in Florida sandy loam is about 24" in diameter pans are sufficiently heavy to dependably cut sod, whether pans are scalloped or smooth.

Smooth pans wear slower than scalloped pans and are somewhat less subject to distortion hitting large rocks. Consider scalloped pans for the front gangs, smooth pans for the rear gangs.

I expect this towed drawbar disk will make your 2-WD, 4,800 pound bare weight, 3-cylinder, turbocharged Deere 5303 grunt pulling it. The tractor and disk widths are compatible, depending on how your rear wheels are spaced.

Agri Supply has a comprehensive inventory of disk replacement parts. The more cup/dish you order in the replacement pans, the more dirt will move but penetration is reduced.

I'd just put new cutters on the front and the best of the rounds on the back. Check your bearings good. Keep up with spacer locations.

I would go with 24" discs and would get scalloped front and rear, they cut much better, looks like you have a 7710 and if that's the case you shouldn't have any trouble pulling it. Like Jeff said Agri-Supply will be your best bet.
