Backhoe BH77 broke - defective part?

If it's out of warranty the I would say go for it but if it's still in warranty then they will deny coverage because it's not a stock part.

Plus it'll have to made out of the same steel and heat treated to boot....Not worth a custom pin

Good news - My dealer is picking up the BH77 today and says they will take care of the issue...whether it be just the pin or replacement of the whole boom assembly if needed. FWIW, they have already sold several of these new model backhoes and he genuinely seemed concerned that this issue may affect others...so, he wants to work with Kubota on a swift resolution. I have my fingers crossed.
:cool2:
This is good news:D

TC,

It should be warranty - go to the dealer and get a new pin or have him install it for you.

Good luck!

My bad...typo in the sig (corrected now). It is the BH77.

Is there any update on your problem?

Got word from the dealer today...the boom & pin were replaced and the BH77 will be re-delivered Monday or Tuesday. Dealer says they examined it thoroughly and no damage was done to the cylinders or sleeve for pin.

Hope it's smooth digging from here on out.

Good luck with the BH....I was thinking about you last night as I tangled with a big rock to remove under lawn.......it seemed it grew as I dug on......there's no way that I would've noticed a pin coming apart like yours cuz I was so engrossed in the task at hand......even though the rock beat me....it's still there....:ashamed:

Well, I can't say that I'm overly observant...I was just taking things real slow as I tried to get a feel for the machine and I happened to see the pin hanging out a little.

Good luck with that big rock.

I have a new L3800 and BH77 and after digging out a small stump this morning I found the boom lock would not engage and had to push on the backhoe to get it locked. Looking at the pin in question here I can see that the frame sides are slightly bent and the holes out of alignment. There is also more pin showing between the frames. I am assuming at this point the pin has broken and will call my dealer tomorrow.

I have put about 5 hours on the backhoe digging out stumps and some rocks. I saw this thread after purchasing but before delivery and while it made me nervous, my dealer assured me he would take care of any problems if they occurred. Now I just hope I don't see him too often.

Well, I got the backhoe back earlier this week with the pin and boom replaced...but unfortunetly, I haven't had a chance to try it out again yet. With the forcasts calling for rain over the next week or so, it may be a while before I get the chance. :(

Hope your dealer resolves your BH problems w/o issue. Mine has been repaired  but I have no way of knowing if the pin they used to repair it is flawed like the original. Time will tell I suppose...just hope that if it snaps again, it's still under warrenty.

My dealer just called me, regarding my newish L3800HST. He says there is a mandatory recall out for the BH77 pin!

edit to clarify: I hadn't complained about the pin; mine is working fine. They called me out of the blue.

Good to hear...My dealer says they used the "new" pin when i asked about the repair...but he never mentioned the mandatory recall. I don't know how I would ever know if they used the new pin or not unless it breaks again. Hopefully nobody else will have the broken pin issue on the BH77 now.

It's been so wet around hear that I still haven't had a chance to try my repaired backhoe out yet. I'll be sure to post here again with an update after I've dug a few holes.

I also have the "new" pin and have used the backhoe a bit since being repaired but nothing that would put much strain on it. I am very happy with my dealers handling of the problem (they picked up the backhoe within 30 minutes of me calling and had it back a few days later) and now with Kubota putting out a mandatory recall I am more confident that I made the right choice when buying.

Good news! ...I finally had a chance to get out and work with the backhoe this weekend and it dug a bunch of holes without issue. I can't say that the thought of breaking another pin is gone...so, I'm using some extra care with it but it's amazing what this little thing can do.

This post is a little late, but I thought I would throw it in for whoever reads it.
I had a recall on my BH77 backhoe attachment due to a faulty pin that had to be replaced. The dealer said the factory was recalling due to defective pins breaking in half. It was fortunate for me that backhoe was in shop for a cylinder replacement at time of recall. My brand new backhoe came up with a defective cylinder out of the blue, and made me lose the machine for two weeks until they could figure out it was the cylinder and not a valve. All is fixed and now I am up and running strong again digging stumps here in NC clay!

Never too late to add good info....:)

My 30 hour L3700 SU with a BH77 just broke the said pin. This is the second time I have used the BH. I called my dealer and they said they will have somebody come pick it up and repair it. I hope they fix the bent ears as well. This blows.
