Does your Dipperstick/Crowd circuit seem painfully slow ?

Are you tired of having to run your engine at near PTO rpm to achieve minimally acceptable performance, due to a seemingly poor choice, on Kubota's part, of the supplied PTO pump for your backhoe (..... or just the ill-advised inclusion of a restriction orifice where it isn't really needed ?)

If so, there may be a simple solution.

After renting a U17 (zero-tailswing) mini-ex a couple of weeks ago I was reminded of how painfully slow certain aspects of my BH4690B back are, in comparision. Kubota's mini-ex's are really a joy to use - sure wish the same was the case for their backhoes for CUT's .... :(

Yesterday I had to install my BH4690B and do some trenching that I wasn't able to get done when I had the mini-ex. After using it for about an hour and being driven nearly bonkers with how slow the dipperstick/crowd circuit was I remembered that in looking at the parts manual at some point I had seen some restriction orifice plates ..... checking the parts manual again I found that there indeed was a total of 4 of them listed:

1 for the boom/lift circuit (which has always seemed plenty fast enough for me at most any engine rpm)

2 for swing circuits (also plenty fast enough)

and 1 for the dipperstick/crowd circuit

The attached photo shows the parts manual with the dipperstick/crowd circuit circled in red - and is marked as item no. 003:

Simple mod - will take all of about 10 or 15 minutes:

1. Remove the two bolts securing the cover for the BH's valve.

2. Prop valve cover up out of the way so you can work.

3. Disconnect hydraulic line.

4. Remove JIC to ORFS fitting that the hydraulic line was connected to, exposing the restriction plate for removal.

5. Remove restriction plate with pick/probe.

6. Repeat steps 4 thru 1, in reverse order, reassembling unit.

Attached photo shows location (circled in red)- should be the same for either the 4672 or the 4690 hoes:

Found this old thread, wondered if anybody else has tried this? Any potential negative impacts of this mod?
