It is not so much of a problem of not having space to use it in the shop, but a problem of where to put it when not using it. (the woodworking shop is a single car garage and the metal shop is about half that size) I will take a look at them though, but I dont do that much work with large pieces, so I am not sure how useful a bandsaw would be.

Also dont forget that a good metal blade is about a hundred bucks, and one wrong move(time) can destroy it. And the abrasive type cutting wheels tend to drift on the big stuff, and put out a dust that will last on your tounge prob till the next time you need to use it!

My first year welding course cutting a bevel with the OA torch was required to pass. One 3" straight piece and one 2" hole circle bevel.

A clean tip is essential, a keen eye and a steady hand doesn't hurt either

I know about the dust, I was doing some heavy grinding to surface a hacked up piece of rail road rail, to make an anvil with the 7 inch grinder. About an hour of grinding, and for the next few days, whenever I blew my nose, it was all black.

People, people! Dust masks! Sheesh! Buy a box of disposable N95 respirator masks. Anytime you are generating lots of dust with a hand tool, in particular, use one! You can usually reuse them a bunch of times too. You don't want to be breathing all that crud in. Get a box of 10 or 20, so you aren't afraid to use one.

I have a 3M half face resperator with N95 prefilters and organic vapor filters, I just forgot to put it on. (I know that is worse)

I do a lot of tubing so i quit using an abrasive saw and went to the dry saw

I got the rage 3 Extreme

The cuts are so much cleaner and no more dust from the abrasive blades

But those little chips that it throws are hot and sharp

But one advantage it can be used for wood or metal so that it is a 2 in one saw

Watch out for chips of steel flying off the track- hardened steel (work-hardened!) and more brittle. Wait until you're using the forge and you blow your nose!

I'd suggest a plasma cutter. Less kerf generally and faster cuts (depending that the size is matched to the metal).

I would love to have a plasma cutter, but my next big purchase is going to be an old lincoln SA-200 for a restoration project, then I will get a mig, then maby a plasma. (will sell the tombstone somewhere in bewteen getting the SA-200 and the mig)
