and last ... a sad story. The picture here is of Medusa, the tablesaw I waited an awfully long time to get. As you can see, she has had a motorectomy. After a mere 2.5 years, and with religious use of the dust collector, the internal switch on her Baldor motor got fouled by dust and fried the windings. Lesson learned? TEFC does not mean *Totally* Enclosed Fan Cooled - it means "mostly* Enclosed Fan Cooled. Dust will find a way in if there is one, no matter how small. The replacement will have a waterproof (hence dustproof) cord grommet, and the cord housing and the start/run capacitor housing will be sealed with silicone. The armature shaft will have a foam rubber "flinger" to keep dust out of that area. $10 worth of stuff, had I known better, would have helped me avoid this sad situation. Oh well, live and learn. Use a table saw or HD shaper? you might want to consider adding the same simple dustproofing to avoid similar problems.

Thanks Bird,

I've tried to post a couple of replies sooner and can't seem to get them to post or stay posted.

Anyway, I thought about 16' so I could have storage over the bathroom, toolroom and a small spray booth.

Hopefully this will post.

webbmeister,

That is sad to hear about your "66", that is a cadillac and shouldn't be having to overhaul her yet. Can you described the flipper on the armature. You have lost me there.

Thanks

Gary

Unlike the Webmeister, i don't usually have time to comb my hair before picture taking. Thats why my shop is such a mess! My workbench is made out of scrap and salvage material.(mostly palats and a few economy studs and one sheet of 1/2" plywood) My entire barn is made up of the same including garage-sale stuff. i took a couple of pics of my bench and shop. Entire cost of barn, right around $3500.00! Shop,24'x24': Entire barn, 24'x40' with hay loft above shop part.......Will try to start a post with all info and pics later.....Great thread, Todd...

I detect some rattlin' horns hanging on the post and the orange hunting jacket on the chair. Didn't see the bow or the gun. Looks like a great shop too.

It is a dense foam rubber washer, about 1 inch from face to face, that is placed on the shaft between the pulleys and the endbell. It should be placed as close to the endbell as possible (without touching it) and as it rotates, it both creates a breeze that blows dust away from the endbell bearings and physically tosses larger particles that make it past the breeze. I got mine at an electric motor repair shop - it is a generic item that cost less than $2.

Sorry Webmeister, I always seem to get in trouble when I use metaphors.......As you can see, it won't be too long before my shop will be as neat as yours.....rofl

Messy shop/workbench photos

Mark,Your shop is clean compared to mine! Here are some photos after I picked up a bit.(needed to so I could walk in it to get the photos)/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gifThe work bench I got from Xerox for $20.00 when they sell stuff they can't write-off any longer. It has a 2" maple top and is rated for a 1000lbs.! the bottom shelf is filled with scrap steel for the welder, and the two top shelfs are filled with odds+ends.

There's one like him in every town - very popular too, from the looks of things. ;-)
