\"batch\" processing of jpegs?

Is there a web site or software out there that I can batch process a bunch of jpegs.

Ex I took a bunch of pics on vacation at high res. I want to resize them & optimize for small file size to email. Can I do them all at once? Opening them individually in adobe photoshop elements takes a while.

Thanks

Re: \"batch\" processing of jpegs?

My version of photoshop elements (original release, I think)allows resizing a batch. Go down from "file" to "automate" then to "batch" and a window will open. Maybe that was dropped in the later version.
What I would like to find is a way to do the auto levels and auto contrast on a batch when I am not interested in tweaking each one.

Paint Shop Pro does batch processing.

ACDSee version 5.0 or later, Graphics Workshop, and ImageRobot come to mind. I prefer ACDSee from ACDsystems. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif ACDSee 6.0

Second the recommendation for IrfanView. Does a great job of batch processing. You can also sharpen, lighten etc. at the same time.

There are a number of "resizer" programs. Check out http://www.showyourphotos.com/

or check out shareware.com for photo converters.

thanks reb - it was right there in front of me. I did actually read the manual, but that was 1 year ago.

Re: \"batch\" processing of jpegs?

I use both ACDsee and Irfanview. They're a little different so I keep them both.

IView is free, and so I'd recommend it if it will do your work. One particular featrure I treasure is that it will write the HTML to turn a set of pictures into a contact sheet with links to the large pix. I use that all the time to distribute photos. It impresses the hell out of people to be able to send them an HTML in a few minutes. <grin>

ACDSee tends to want to take over your computer, but it has a good utility to scan directories for duplicates. It's about a fifty buck program IIRC.

Both a re a little easier to use and less ponderous than PhotoShop but neither holds a candle to the big software in terms of capability.

Hazmat--you're a better man than I am. Admitting I read an instruction manual is almost like letting the wife find out I asked someone for directions in a strange town. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: \"batch\" processing of jpegs?

I recommend a program called ThumbsPlus (www.cerious.com). I've used it for almost ten years; it just keeps getting better. You can try it for free. It catalogs images and video, does great retouching (everything but layering, really), and has a sophisticated batch processor with a simple interface. You can do things like: "take all the photos I've selected, resize to 640 x 480, remove the redeye, apply a sharpen filter, and save in a child folder as .GIF files with a '_sm' appended to the filename." You can do it faster than you can say it.

Can't recommend it highly enough.
