The place that i work (Maine) is running away with barberry . The owners want it removed ,all of it :eek:Each field has it all along the sides and into the woods( old farm land)We thought that maybe by putting chain(choker) around the bases of the **** we could pull them out with the tractor to try and get all the roots we can. We have used chain saws ,weedwackers with the blades, but without spraying with a weed killer(Can't use ) I know they'll just come back twice as much:mad::mad:
Has anyone got any other ways of removing this stuff?

I've mowed many acres of barberry BUT it was always followed up with herbicide. Maybe repeated mowing will kill it, every month?? Or grub the entire area. I think it will be tough to get rid of without chemical treatment.

I believe that persistent mowing will keep it in check. In non-mowable areas, chemical treatment is your most viable solution.

Eastbrook Maine? Molasses Pond?

My friend has a cottage up there that we use almost every 2 years

great spot.

Barbary ,cut it the flush in late summer, then spray the top with

Roundup, the plants all store sugar in the roots in the fall the roundup goes

right to the roots and kill it good, the only way, some goats like it.

I'm just a couple of miles from Molasses.
I wish we could spray Roundup on them ,but they don't approve of it . Hard chance of getting rid of them ,without spraying, and some of the areas you can't get a mower into Goats? I think the coyotes would give them a run for there money,They've been **** on the deer!!
