Ballast box

   / Ballast box #11
The counterweight I made for my R4047 started out as a 1,300lb (weighed at the scrap yard) block of steel, then I added the draw bar, top link bracket, and legs/box on the bottom...it's probably 1,350lbs minimum, and makes a big difference when using the FEL. I can finally max out the FEL, and not lift the rear tires. I also notice it's more stable when I lift full buckets of gravel/dirt (doing a lot of that to backfill around the foundation around the new building. I like that it's compact....

I thought perhaps he had given me the wrong numbers also but according to the specs (http://www.lstractorusa.com/upload/U series Literature.pdf ) that is the correct "hitch lift capacity", not that I will ever think about anything that heavy. Any idea what else this could refer to? In regards to the loaded tires, I prefer not to do that, primarily for hauling capacity. As it is, I can haul the tractor in my trailer but with loaded tires I would be too heavy. If I needed the ballast to go with me, I could put it in the truck with the tractor on the trailer. Thinking in the 1500 lb range still.
