BAD \'BOTA!!!

Need some help from you cold weather pros. My B21 (1998 model/ 580 hrs.)has never failed to start, until today./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif It has not been started in two weeks and sat out in the cold during that time. (34F Hi, 10F Low) These are temps below normal for a Georgia tractor and I am not the best mechanic you have ever met.

When I had the problem I figured the fuel was the suspect. I added a stabilizer to the tank (1/2 full) but no luck. It would turn over and did run for 5-10 sec. but then died. Jumped it with the truck, a lot of turning over, but never fired up. Anyone have an idea where I should start looking?? I sure did hate to miss my once every five year chance to blade snow./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thanks

Re: BAD \'BOTA!!!

Mark,
Maybe you have jell fuel in the line.
Do you have fuel flowing to your filter pot..to check open your bleeder screws.

So you have a saftey switch hidden somewhere.

Re: BAD \'BOTA!!!

Thanks Thomas, Sorry for being so slow, are we talking the glass bowl below the fuel filter? I don't think I have a bleed screw, but I can pull the bowl. If the fuel has jellied, will an additive make it OK or do I need to find away to drain the tank?

Re: BAD \'BOTA!!!

Mark,

First: no cold weather pro here and not because it ain't cold here./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Do you have the workshop manual for the B21? If not, I can help by adding the trouble shooting tips from the manual for "engine does not start". Let me know. My first guess would be the same as yours, fuel. I would check the fuel filter and the fuel line next the injection nozzles for gelled fuel.

Re: BAD \'BOTA!!!

If the fuel has jelled then you will have to change the fuel filter and fill it with fresh fuel/conditioner mix. Here is a link to a thread a couple of weeks ago. It goes into detail and gives the link to powerservice. my tractor wont start
Hope this helps

Re: BAD \'BOTA!!!

This same problem happened to my B20. I took out the sediment bowl and cleaned it and i also jumped the tractor with some cables. I would also check the glow plug and the battery connections.

Re: BAD \'BOTA!!!

Thanks for the information all.

Twinkle Toes, I don't have the manual and will write you if I can't fix things up with new fuel.

Gordon, I missed that discussion before and I am betting I have the same problem. Thanks for adding the link.

Kubota monkey, I will drain and clean the filter bowl and see what happens then.

The weather we are having has been crazy. I didn't have an additive in the fuel when it was parked and we had some cold weather. I am betting it jelled. I tried some additive I had around to see if I could get thing running. The additive was for gas and diesel but I don't think it said anything about anti-jel. I'll get the right stuff and try again.

Thank you

Re: BAD \'BOTA!!!

I live where it gets down to zero. When starting my Kubota B6200, if I don't glow them plugs good, it will not start.

Re: BAD \'BOTA!!!

Thomas,
Does your B6200 have a heater, for it save alot on the engine starting day after day during cold weather.

Re: BAD \'BOTA!!!

I’m hesitant to reply because I’m no expert and only offer a suggestion or two. The fact that your only had ½ tank full may be suspect for collecting condensation that is now frozen. When your tractor started and ran for a few seconds might be a burning up the fuel in the filter and pump then running dry.
Best of luck. Don’t know if I helped, but this board if full of knowledge and helpful people.
