B7800 with MMM....thoughts?

I have a new B7800 (5 Hrs) and a 72"RMM rear discharge. I like the rear discharge because it spreads the discharged grass clippings over a wider area than a side discharge, so rows or bunches of grass clippings are less noticable and they disappear faster. However, the B7800 with RMM takes up alot of room in my garage. If Kubota had a rear discharge MMM I'd have one, so that I could gain more garage space.

What tires do you all have on the 7800 for mowing? More specifically I was wondering if ag tires would cause *excessive* tearing up of the lawn.

I'm not too fussy about the lawn, right now I often don't take the tire chains off my lawn tractor in the spring. I ask simply because I just wouldn't want to see 12 inch chunks of sod getting thrown around unnecessarily.

Have a large number of wooded acres and about 2 acres of lawn & a bit of garden. If (when) I get my 7800, what are your thoughts on tires?

Thanks

I had turfs on mine but had the dealer switch them to R4's after mowing my yard once. If the grass is wet the traction was bad on my hilly piece of paradise with turf tires. The R4's do much better but will cut up the yard a little in 4 wheel drive when making tight turns. I think the Ag's would be harder on the lawn.

I would suggest R4's over R1's if you're mowing a lawn.
I've got R4's (not loaded) on the B7800 and most of the time I can mow in 2wd, on some hilly areas I'd break traction and have to switch to 4wd. I do notice some scuffing on the grass from the front tires if I turn to sharp in 4wd.
I use to mow the same area with my Ford 2000 (2wd) with R1s on back. The R1's did leave noticable imprints in soft areas and some hilly areas, but then the Ford 2000 is a heavier tractor, plus the tires were loaded but I never lost any traction while mowing.
For me the R4's are a better choice than R1's because all I plan to use this tractor for is mowing, snowblowing, and some grading in my gravel driveway. I've tried the mowing and the grading and if I thought I needed more traction I just put it in 4wd. I haven't tried snowblowing but plan to use tire chains on the rear R4's and 4wd if I need to.

Personally I hate MMM's. Lining them up, pushing/pulling them under the tractor, crawling underneath to hook up the PTO. You spend alot of time on your back and knees. Getting to all the grease points is also a major pain.

I'd much rather back up, connect the 3 points, PTO and away I go.

Gentlemen,

Well, I did it. On Friday the B7800 will be delivered. And not a moment too soon. The weeds and grass have been piling up since the 3 yo Craftsman 23hp rider gave up with a loud bang, a hole in the engine block and a puff of smoke.

My bride has resigned herself to the fact that I will be of a singular focus for a few days. I lobbied and told her that my "Kubota Obsession" will result in a more beautiful property. She gave me that look you got from your teacher when you told her the dog ate your homework. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am pumped and will post pics when I can dismount long enough to grab the camera.

Congrat's on your purchase. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
It should not take long to catch up on your lawn cutting. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Then your wife can start clicking off the items on her list. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

thanks for the advice on the tires guys. I'll make do with the lawn tractor for another summer as I soften up the battlefield with my wife. Every chance I get I mention how her life will be enriched by ME having a big orange tractor. Luckily my neighbor just bought a Kubota so I can point out all the great projects he does for HIS wife.

Won't be long now.

Here is a secret I have found on my B2910.

I have the RCK60-27b MMM.

If you roll the bucket on the FEL all the way down and put a plank under it.
You can lift the front wheels off the cement floor about 9 or 10 inches.

This allows you to roll the deck straight out under the front wheels.
The deck will fit between the front wheels and the bucket.

It takes 2 minutes to drop the deck..
Another 5 to put it back on ( Drive shaft alignment)...

Regards,
Chris

Truklaw,
I have turfs on my B2910 and they are loaded in the rear..

I have some hilly areas and almost never have to put it in 4wd.

I plow snow with the turfs and they work just fine...

Taking them into the woods is a little dicey though...

Good luck with the new machine....

Your going to love this machine... It's even better than Tivo!

Regards,
Chris
