Can you tell I am closing in on a 2710 purchase?

Two questions; if you've got any advice I'd like to hear it.

1. What bucket options are there for the LA402? I know there are both 54" and 60" buckets, but I don't know about their duty rating. Is there a HD bucket? What's the best bucket? (This issue previously came up on a L3010 thread where the 60" HD bucket was recommended over the standard 66" and 70" buckets.)

2. Is the 2710 enough tractor for a 60" box scraper? I like the Woods GB60 at 463 lbs. Would a 48" or 54" unit be better? (Recall that the 2710 has a tread width of 56".)

As an aside, why does it seem that the Woods implements are built more solidly than the equivalent Land Pride implements? I have a newbie eye, but the difference seems obvious even to me. (I am leaning toward the Woods Brushbull 60 over the Land Pride RCR1560 for that reason.)

BTW, I want to thank everyone that posts such useful information in these forums. You're collective experience and tractor wisdom has been invaluable. I have gotten a great education reading TBN. Its not free though --- its about to cost me the better part of $20k!

54" is the HD model. I have the 60". I have not had any problems with it. But have not used it to dig.
I have a 1560 LP. The problem with a 60" is not the horse power, but weight of tractor. Both the 27 & 2910 have more than enough power for their size. I would go with the 60" Woods if weight has anything to do with how well an attachment is made. The 1560 LP weighs 366 lbs.

DLC,

I'm not sure if there's a HD bucket for the 2710. Don't let Kubota's literature confuse you about the standard 54" and the "light duty" 60" optional bucket. The construction materials are the same. The 60" is just bigger in all capacity dimensions. I used the 54" bucket model for about 4 months while waiting for my 60" to come in. I really like it and think I'll appreciate the extra capacity when it comes time to move some snow.

Yes, the 2710 handles a 5' boxblade with no problems. I have a Tufline TB160 (5') that weighs 483lbs.

Both Woods and Land Pride impliments are quality products. I believe both make impliments in various grades and weights, some with more or less features. For LP gear the 15 (and 10?) series are their lighter duty stuff and they get progressively beefier and heavier as you go up to the 25 and 35 series. You may want to check the 25 series too as the 2710 will handle most of them.

just make sure that all implements are wider than your tire width. nothing worse than leaving tire marks when u are doing finish work.

DLC, I guess I'll just echo the other guys' suggestions; go for all 60" stuff unless you have a specific use for smaller. I have the 54" bucket on my front end loader and for a specific use, but most of the time I'd have probably liked the 60" bucket better. But my brush hog, finish mower, and box blade are all 60" models.

I have a 54" box blade for my 2710 and wish I had gotten a 60", at least. It works fine, but would have covered more ground quicker. I don't know why the dealer recommended it.

I use a 60" brush hog and a 60" finish mower. The finish mower could stand to be bigger also.

I recently got a 6.5 foot disk harrow that the 2710 handles very well.

I have a united 66 inch model. It looks well built. Someone posted a table of weights by size/mfr, and it said my box blade wieghed about 450. That number seems light to me, but I wont quibble. I have used that implement to dig up a 50x50 piece of clay and rock land that used to have xmas trees on it, with tall grass growing. The sod was the real problem. With the rippers all the way down, I bogged down the 2710. That's when I realized I was in M range (ah, the learning process /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif). After shifting to L, I never had any problems again. The engine would smoke and grunt every now and then, but it just pulled all the crud around with no trouble. I really like the 66 inch size, and I suspect ther 72 inch is probably a stretch for the 2710. Hope this holps!

B2910; 54" bucket, 60" box blade, no problems whatsoever. The 60" bucket might be a good idea, but I'll need more "seat time" before coming to a conclusion. I certainly wouldn't go with any implement less than 54".
