Now complete.

Adjusted one ear plate with 0.060” to 0.085” shims to allow hand insertion of pins. Several more tacking and installing checks. Trim sides and fabricate receiver hitch parts.

Welded. Pins fit but are tight. Fitment might loosen some with use. This is where I really appreciate fabrication manufacturers skill of making large weldments. Invest in jigs, weld procedures, go, no-go gauges to make repeatable parts.

Now to paint.

RScotty, The quick attach pins are fully supported and pass through the respective side plates. Sees no rotational force. OEM 1” on the B26 ears and 1.19” on the excavator ears. These see forces at the extreme range of motion with an extension, anti curling movement of the attachment. The pins are not cheap but expect wear or breakage to be rare. The 3” pucks and front pivot point see most of the load.

Congratulations! I remember when you were debating whether to build a dedicated B26 ripper or the adapter.
I think that the M59 could do with a few more backhoe implements - it reall needs a ripper or perhaps a fishtail ripper. I wish that Kubota had made a wider range of OEM attachments to fit.

Your project looks like an awful lot of work. I'm impressed that you did it, although seeing the work involved has made me less tempted to start making an adapter myself.

Ready to dig.
Whittling on this blow downed oak root ball.

Good power to break 2-3” roots. Bigger roots take time but tooth and shank do their job.
Ripper 150#, adapter 60#. B26 handles like a champ. Call this a successful venture.

Miss my mega outrigger pads and cylinder guard steps like on the M59. My climbing gear is a little worn and slips sometimes. Just other improvements to look forward to.

This is probably the third time I have read through this thread since it started. It is a very thoughtful and well executed build. I am reading it this time because I am getting a little more serious about building one for the BT1100 backhoe on my L48. It really helps a person to visualize what you want to do with pictures of what others have built.

I have the general idea in my head, but a detail I want to make sure I get right is, the quick change ears. I spoke to a vendor on Marketplace recently about the ears he offers. I noticed he has a couple of different designs, one he says fits the KX40 (and others) and then a different one for the KX57 (and others).

From what I can tell, the KX40 design is the one that would fit the coupler on my BT1100. As I write this post, I am thinking there may be a part number on my bucket that may help me determine which coupler is on my backhoe. I will check into this in the near future.

That thought aside, are there any among us that might have knowledge that could clear this question up for me?

Thank you all,
Doug

Doug,

Smokeydog is no longer with us so we have lost a valuable member and his further contributions for B26 and M59. The pictures and posts he has published are all we have for information.

I am not familiar with the BT1100 or the L48 BUT I am fairly certain the ears for the KX40 and the KX57 will not fit the BT1100 quick change adapter as I was frustrated with Kubota's quick change for the M59 as it fit ONLY the Kubota quick change buckets. I finally found USA Attachments and they made a "custom" quick change adapter for me which mates to the M59 and works with the mini ex buckets up to and including the KX40. After I bought one and installed it, I then worked with Smokeydog on the installation details and he then bought one for his M59. He later used the M59 adapter dims and layout and built a mash up so he could use the KX implements ( buckets, ripper, etc) on the B26.

The L48 and M59 both use the identical quick change adapter and TLB quick change buckets. These TLB buckets and KX40 buckets are NOT interchangeable.

The KX57 and larger machines, such as KX80, use a much larger and substantially heavier quick change adapter that is entirely different than used on KX40.

Doug, here is a synopsis of an old thread from 2021 in which we are discussing pin ons, QA, and the various buckets. There were several threads. Wish we had all the info in one place.

Here are excerpts from an old 2021 thread in "Kubota Owning/Operating" labeled:
"Backhoe Buckets & Attachments". There were later threads too.

HKBIRDMAN:
I believe Werk-Brau out of Findlay, Ohio makes backhoe buckets for Kubota. My L-47 has the BT1000 backhoe and 24" bucket. I bought it with the K7543 excavator quick connect and it will take any bucket or attachment that fits a Kx040 excavator. I just bought a Werk-Brau 24" ripper tooth and change-over is smooth and it makes pretty quick work of removing 8-10" diameter maple stumps.

JENNIFERKUBOTAM62:
Same here, I was told my M62 quick connect uses the same connection as the mini x's. When I bought mine I bought a Werk-Brau ripper and a couple buckets from the Kubota Excavator line (if you click on the picture you can see the Kubota part numbers).

rSCOTTY:
For the the M62s being sold now, they have one more optional coupler type as an option. So for the M62 you can have the PIN-ON type, or opt for the BT4580 type quick connector for an extra $700, or specify the K7543 type quick connector for an extra $1000. The K7543 is the same quick coupler used on Kubota CE series Excavators. And of course it uses the buckets with the special ears that only fit the K7543 coupler.

The buckets themselves all seem to be identical except for the ears -which are either pin-on, BT4580 style ears, or K7543 style ears...all different, of course. Note that you can order just the ears directly from KUBOTA and weld them onto whatever bucket or QA attachment you want. The ears cost roughly $400 a pair.
I have no idea whether that K7543 will fit onto the M59 or not. It might. Anyone know?

SMOKEY DOG:

My M59 with the BT1200v backhoe has a pin on bucket with a thumb. Studied the parts diagrams on Messicks for QA and think the rear yoke is needed to couple to the QA bucket ears for my machine.

Called Messick’s, Matt in sales about a QA conversion.
The K7543 would fit M59, $1000. That part is good.
BT4580 QA is $750.
Thought I had a winner till I asked if the K7543 would fit my current thumb, and told him the WG price sheet listed separate thumbs for the two QA options. He checked said it looked liked I would need new thumb option too. Additional $2400 for the thumb that fits K7543.

Thanks to M59 and rScotty. M59, that is good synopsis.

I have the backhoe off the tractor at the moment, but I was able to see a tag on the back side of the bucket under the quick attach bracket. I am hoping the tag will clear things up with a part number. I am pretty sure it is a Kubota bucket, if what is left of the paint is any indication, as it appears to be the Kubota grey.

I will get back to this thread when I have learned more.

Thanks again,
Doug
