To all my fellow gulf coast residents - - it's currently 6:30 AM. Four years ago by this time I had already lost power [that was restored exactly 4 weeks later] as Katrina worked her way inland. The clean up/repair jobs were never ending it seemed.
Sure makes you appreciate the comforts of a secure home.
Just a friendly reminder.

Morning Tdog,
I was watching our giant pecan tree fall at this time 4 years ago. I now have about 90% of the mess cleaned up and repairs done from the storm. It seems like a neverending battle. And I was luckier than many!

For those of us who endured Katrina, I guess we will remember August 29 the rest of our lives.....

That's certainly understandable. Something like Katrina makes my occasional little problems seem insignificant.

I saw a map of New Orleans this weekend that showed the population lost/gain since Katrina. Most of the map had quite a drop in population.

One does not forget a big even like a hurricane or tornado. I got out of South Florida just as Andrew was arriving. It was supposed the move the week after Andrew showed up. I was able to get the moving truck a few days early. I drove that truck out just as the first rain bands came it. Not fun.

After Fran hit here in NC, I wake up if I hear wind noise. I slept through most of Fran but after seeing the mess I don't sleep well in windstorms anymore. I was lucky and only a few branches fell off the trees. They hit the ground and then the house just barely missing windows. Nobody in my area had damage but other areas were really hit hard. The mountains of chipped up trees was unreal. We had power back on after 12-18 hours because our lines were connected to the main line. Other areas were out for weeks. We were VERY LUCKY.

Then I saw the flooding from Floyd. That simply was unreal.

Later,
Dan

If its any consolation something good happened on Aug. 29 thirty years ago.... my wife kissed me for the first time. :)

As for the hurricane,(any large natural disaster, for that matter) the destruction was almost too much to comprehend. My condolences to anyone that lost a loved one and/or suffered property damage.
