Anyone Run Mobile1?

The factory FL820s filter was gray with round oil inlet holes--it appeared to be a Champ Labs filter. The aftermarket Motorcraft FL820s that I bought to replace it was white with oval oil inlet holes, like Purolator. It appeared at that time (2005) that Champ Labs had a contract to supply the factory filters, and every aftermarket FL820s that I ever looked at had a Purolator base plate. Things could have changed since...I haven't had a Ford since 07.

Baucom: "I do know that the factory FL820S on my 05 F150 was a completely different filter than the aftermarket Motorcraft FL820S that you pick up at the parts store."

I'd be quite interested in hearing about the difference.

I've been running Mobil 1 for quite a few years. It's done a great job in my wife's Durango. It even bumped the fuel mileage a little. I run the Mobil 1 bike oil in my atv where it made a huge difference. I know it works in there as it's smoother shifting and the cooling fan hardly comes on anymore. Good Stuff! As stated, Bobistheoilguy.com is the place to go for oil info.

The "S" in the Motorcraft FL820S stands for silicon anti drain back valve.

It is critical on the modular Ford engines. Don't compromise here.

I have used Mobil 1 off and on in the past but don't anymore. I only put about 9k miles on my truck per year and have been using the Motorcraft semi synthetic 5w20. I did notice the mobil 1 was always a little lower on the dip stick at change time. I have read where it is more volatile and will flash off (evaporate) more than conventional oils. It never leaked or smoked but it was always lower on the dipstick.

I just didn't see the advantage to justify the price difference. I can do a 7 quart oil and filter change for about 25 bucks with the Motorcraft oil.

On 2011 chev trucks you have to use Dexos oil or will void your warranty.

They can not make you do this unless they supply the parts. You can use any oil, filter, or part that meets or exceeds the manufactures specs.

Dexos is a spec, a number of companies make it....so yes GM can require it without providing it.

In that case if its a spec, yes they can. But to say you must run this filter, this oil, this lug nut they can not.

I hadn't checked my manual, but I was afraid of that..Nearly everything is either synthetic or hybrid-synthetic on new vehicles.

Looks like Mobile-1 it shall be.

Checked my manual and it only recommends ASI approved 5W30 with the standard GM approval number that the wife's '06 Hummer also has...No DEX anything anywhere on the oil recommendations for an '11 GMC 6.2...The Corvette and maybe the Camaro, not the truck...Will still run Mobil-1 just for giggles.
