Anyone Run Mobile1?

   / Anyone Run Mobile1? #11
I've primarily run Mobil 1 in my trucks, but have strayed to Penzoil Platinum, Royal Purple, Syntec, etc.

I tend to go back to M1 due to price point and past performance. Nothing I've ever owned has had an oil related problem, but that is to be expected these days. However some of my vehicles have been models that notoriously consume oil (the 5.3L in my DD, two 4.2L V6's in F150's, etc) and never had consumption issues with M1.

I know some people don't like FRAM filters but I have yet to have a problem with one so I continue to use a FRAM Xtended Guard filter which is rated for 10k miles and the extra grip end makes it easy to change by hand without a filter wrench.

I like Wix filters. They're solidly constructed, reasonably priced, and readily availably at O'Reilly, NAPA (NAPA Gold), & Carquest (Carquest Blue). Fram is fine, just a little pricey compared to comparable filters. The aftermarket AC filters are made by Champ Labs and I think most use the ecore design, which seems to have some issues with the felt-like endcaps adhering to the filter media. I don't know if the factory filters are also Champ ecores or not, maybe someone else can speak up on that. I do know that the factory FL820S on my 05 F150 was a completely different filter than the aftermarket Motorcraft FL820S that you pick up at the parts store.

I've always run the aftermarket AC's and never had an issue...Did have a problem with Fram on one truck where I would get valve tapping when it was below freezing...A GM tech told me that the Frams didn't have the correct return flow for a 5.7. Changed out the Fram for an AC and problem solved.

Will probably spring for the K&N filter. Given the longer change times on the newer trucks, the price really isn't an issue.

I use Mobile 1 in all my vehicles, including diesel pickup and tractor. Have done so for many, many years. I have never had problems, believe in it. I change my own oil, but intervals are stretched out and I consider it a form of insurance. There are many opinions regarding use of regular oil or synthetic. Seems that the conversation surrounds the value received vs cost. Never seen anything but people saying it is good oil... as are several other oils.

My wife's Caddy CTS calls for Mobile 1 so that is what we use. Perhaps one good reason for that is the tiny cartrige type oil filter.

Since I keep Mobile 1 on hand and want to limit the types of oil I keep, I also use it on all my small engines.

With all the competition, all the synthetic oils are good and there may be little difference. On the other hand, oil filters are another matter. If you look into the filter reports where the filters are taken apart and graded at what they will filter out, there is plenty of room for film-flam. Lots of hype on how good we were years ago. Choose wisely.

I ran Mobil 1 for the first 4 years in my '05 5.3L silverado or about 50K. I still changed the oil about every 5,000 due to the 11 zerks in the front end that needed grease. Decided that I wasn't getting enough benefit at 5000 mile changes and am no longer use it.

The truck is Regular Cab Long Bed and only sees maybe 3,000 miles per year at the moment. I may start running Mobile 1 next change due to the amount of time between changes.

I'd be quite interested in hearing about the difference.
