Anyone here install their own septic

Here the the county perk test the lot ( for a fee of course ) and draws the system to the specs they think necessary. I’ve never heard of anyone paying an engineer to design one and I doubt the county inspector would approve it even if they did.

An engineer designed/stamped plan is required in many parts of the USA.

Talk about engineers, perk tests and fees etc, the latest is getting certificate of conformity from the city in order to get a mortgage.
Just another fee to add to the stack.

CT is pretty strict too. Need to replace the septic at my father-in-law's house. $3,600 for soil tests, contour survey and mapping, engineered plan and permits. Then $29,000 for digging, sand, tanks, pipe, back-filling, grading and replanting grass. Has to be done by a licensed installer. The installer is a friend, so he may let us so most of the earth work with our backhoe to lower the cost.

We have to have a site plan drawn up by a soil scientist, then get the town CEO (Code Enforcement Officer) approve it. All for a fee, of course. Permits are then filed with the state, and put into a database so that you can tell 30 years later if a septic was legally installed. Yes, it's bureaucracy at work but if you're buying a home at least you can tell whether the system is functional in the long term, or just a pipe dumping into a tank made of hemlock with an overflow out the other end. And I've seen the latter...

I think that is a good idea.

My farmhouse had no records of installation nor location.

If your system functions with gravity, there is NO NEED for a pump!

That's kinda what I thought.

What will be will be. I hired the guy with the best rep. in the area. I'm sure I'm not the first to do this and i really have no other choice.

A lakeside property just sold via public auction,
Very worrisome as the house is on a point of land, on solid bedrock, and septic is hand dug pit 5-6 ft from shore and sports an overflow to lake feature.
While in a very dilapidated state it has 2 loo's of the high volume flush generation.

This has been abandoned for 25 years and hopefully the city will closely monitor the situation.
However if no complaints the city rarely takes any action so it is up to a neighbor to start the ball rolling and unfortunately few ever do so.

Around here that home would have to have a holding tank type septic and have it pumped every few months.

I live on a city owned lake. All systems installed since 1982 have to be 300 feet from the water. All systems must be inspected and pumped every 3 years and paper work turn into the city by the company that pumped it. This is for anything within 1 mile of the lake. If there is a house it will be inspected.

Yep, that's what we have here also.
Residential 2 year pumping and 4 yrs for seasonal.
Inspection is basically left to the licensed pumpers.

As an association we go for group rates and have been successful so far with $160./event for last 6 years.
