I use the quick link posted on my utility trailer and boat trailer (small boat). I cannot attest to strength because never had one come unhitched, but have also NEVER had a quick link come unscrewed no matter which direction the threads are facing. As was mentioned, make sure they are mounted so you screw them down to close and no worries. Thread lock is asking for trouble unless you want to use a wrench and screwdriver every time you unhook.
As for loose chains, I agree, shorten them or use something other than a bungie cord to hold em up. We have had some HUGE brush fires started out here due to sloppy trailer chains dragging. If they are long use a small cable to hold em up.
