Another toothbar question.

Sorry, but I didn't want to hijack someone's thread. I'm going to order a Markham for my 2800 463 loader. The inside dimension is 58 3/8". Will I be alright with the standard amount of teeth or should I have him add 1 or 2 more? I will be doing minor digging and popping out some briars. Thanks again guys.

I never even considered adding some teeth. I'm sure you could have it custom built if you wanted to but I don't think it would be necessary. Plus it would probably cost more. They would have to be more closely spaced. It may not be possible logistically. I don't know exactly how Markham constructs their toothbars but they MAY have stock sections of bar with standard spacing of teeth and just cut off the right amount. But I kinda doubt that. If that's the case you would have to pay a LOT extra for extra teeth. I just wouldn't do it. Mine measured 70.5" inside diameter and I have 7 teeth. You would likely have six and that would be plenty I would think. Besides, if you add extra the spacing would make it look kinda funny I think.

You will have either 6 or 7 teeth. Call them ask see what they consider standard, then tell them what you want when you order it and they will build it for you, at an extra cost of course. In my opinion, one extra tooth is not going to make any kind of difference.

My 60" bucket has 7 teeth and it is not a Markham.

Another thing you might want to consider other than the number of teeth is the thickness of the shanks for the teeth. Some are made from inch shanks, others from inch and a half shanks. They should be case hardened steel shanks and the teeth should be forged.

Are there 1/2" drill bits that will fit in a 3/8" chuck? Both my drills are 3/8" chuck. I going to order a Marham bar tomorrow and want to be prepared when it gets here. I wonder if a 1/2" bi-metal hole saw type bit would be able to get through that hardened steel?

The bi-metal hole saw (the white one) is the easiest and cheapest way to drill the bolt holes. The buckets are nothing more than 3/16" mild steel (buckets are not hardened at all) and the bi-metal hole saw will go thru it like a hot knife thru butter. That's what I used.

You can get a lot of information from the Markham Welding website. But when you actually come down to ordering you need to call. I'll bet I had exchanged something like two dozen e-mails with Melissa before ordering. It's actually a good thing to be required to call. I think it keeps a closer working relationship between customer and seller. Go ahead and call, Melissa will hook you up with one. The shipping, for overnight freight, was surprisingly cheap as well. I think a toothbar is the best bang-for-the-buck accessory you can get for your tractor. I couldn't imagine not having one now. The only reason I wouldn't get one would be if all I were doing with my loader is moving grain and mulch. With any digging it is more than useful.

KarolinaKubota, give her a call and give her your inside bucket measurment and payment method and in 7-10 days it will be at your doorstep or gate entrance.
Installation is easy and if you have a welder you can weld the little doublers they send ya, I added a shim on the toothbar so it would fit a little tighter.

Mine was between 250 - 300, I just can't remember the exact amt. and it will be the same size as yours since we have the same tractor/FEL.

I am SOOOOOO slack (and slammed!) but finally ordered my toothbar TODAY. Sheesh...

$254 including delivery! WOW! Spoke with Barbara at Markham and she said they would try to get it out today! THAT is impressive!!

I'm sure I'll be searching and posting for questions/info once I get it. Can't wait!

By "doublers" I take it you mean the caps on the end of the teeth? I wouldn't mind having some for my ATI TB. Do you know if you can buy them separate?

The "doublers" are 2x2x ~3/8" predrilled sqaures you weld onto the outside of the bucket to reinforce the mounting hole.
