I would like to figure how many lights I can safely run at one time. What is the formula for figuring amps based on wattage? /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Voltage times the current. 12w (watts) is equal to 12 volts drawing 1 amp. A 60w light would draw 5 amps.

Keep the greasy side down.

I'll add an example (I always needed examples to let me see the light (bad pun intended))
if you wanted to add 5 100W bulbs to a 12V system, this would require

500W = 12Volts X XAmps

X amps = 500W / 12 Volts

X = 41.66 Amps

(lets hope that you do not need 5 100 W lights/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif)

Thanks to everyone for the help. I have already added two 50 watt lights and was wondering about running them and the orignal headlights all at once. Since the alternator is rated at 35 amps, I should be alright. Kevin, thanks for the links. Now I will make a spreadsheet application so I will not forget. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
