I am afraid I have to agree with JB. The number of states will grow. Follow the money. Money talks and BS walks. The alcohol industry may fight it, but I think some will start to invest in it and try to profit from it. The states will sell out, they want the money.
Just remember it's a federal law, the State doesn't have authority to legalize it, period. It's not legal, you are just not being charged or arrested, but you could be....

Surprisingly, as drunk and/or stoned as I was in my youth, I never, ever rode my motorcycle unless stone cold sober. And always wore a helmet. Kinda illogical thinking, as I had no such concerns when cars were involved and they can cause much more damage to others than a bike. As others have mentioned, I was fortunate not to have hurt anyone. Now, when I see a drunk driver cause death or injury... I have to do some serious reflection as to what possessed me to do the same actions back then. It kind of puts you in your own personal little corner of **** for a while. Even 30 years later, I often wonder what the heck was I thinking?

Sorry I couldn't help it...it was the two Mooseheads I've had talking...!

Surely you just drank those to compliment the flavors of your meal.

Similarly, I've always wondered where the Fed's got the authority to outlaw it. Where does the government get the authority to tell adults what they can put in their body. You would think that a TRUE CONSERVATIVE would want to tell the government to shove off.

BTW: Why did it take a Constitutional Amendment to outlaw alcohol but not the wacky plant? Please give a principled answer that isn't just "spitting hairs" (example: "well, we define 'this as this' and 'that as that' " )

Moosehead you say? My brother worked in that brewery for 30 years, an electrician. They used to have beer on tap in the lunch room. Is it the same beer we get here I wonder? What % alcohol is your moose?

I agree with you, SC is a big problem. That doesn't change the existing situation and what could happen to you, I'm not defending, only warning those that are mistaken to think your not in violation of federal laws, and think its legal, they could be put away at a whim. I do live in realville.

If it's not regulated, they aren't making money.

And they grab MUCH MORE power by making it illegal. Higher taxes, more restrictions on the populace, and a MAJOR voting point.

It took me about 3 years of discussion for my wife to finally come around and see that NOTHING we have done legally has worked to curb drug use. No law, No incarceration, No threats, No 'education on effects'. I don't think Nancy Reagan was intending for this to occur... but her 'Just say No' campaign kicked off the hysteria about drugs and .gov was very quick to capitalize on the furor.

"You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it's an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before." - Rahm Emanual, Mayor of Chicago

Just won't happen......they would need to put the majority of citizens away.........marijuana is being used in realville...........it will be legal across the country in the next few years.

For me my stupid shenanigans were 40 years ago and it was just what was done then, folks might give you coffee so you wouldn't fall asleep at the wheel but most folks didn't think twice about driving drunk, with about the only precaution might be, who is the least drunk? Even LEO's let you slide, just telling us to take it back to the boat and park it. And I am sure a big part of it was as a young man I didn't have much/any concern for personal safety, and was too selfish to think about the safety of others, but they were different times and a different reality in our society.

Some changes are for the better;)

If the federal gov. would get it's head out of the sand...they would change the (fed) status of pot so they could tap into the tax revenue and use said funds to fortify the health care insurance debacle and also do something about the opioid addiction epidemic...(about as much chance as Harvey W. being appointed to the board of directors of the Girl Scouts)

one issue is...the feds could usurp all the taxes etc levied by states and actually take full control away from the states...It may be the SCOTUS that decides if current (legal) states are illegally profiting from the sale of a controlled or illegal substance.

Things were different 40-50 years ago. No such thing as a DUI. You may have gotten hauled to the drunk tank to sober up but that was about it. Normally, a stern lecture was dispensed and away you went.

Should have died at least a hundred times. I can understand young and foolish but not old and still stupid...

If every one that drinks Alcohol now quit and smoked weed instead, society would be better off.

No more drunken bar fights, no more DUI, no more Alcohol related domestic violence, no more drunk tank. No more college kids dieing from alcohol overdose.

Plus the sale of snack food would go up.

Tell that to my cousins. My Uncle and Aunt were killed by a driver high on MJ. They were rearended sitting at a stop light; they were sitting in the back seat of a Lincoln Town car; the perp hit them at a high rate of speed.

I'm sorry for their loss and I mean no disrespect, however I would be interested to see the toxicology report.

We're they only using weed, or was the weed mixed with another drug or alcohol?

I have not heard of many cases where a person high only on weed caused a high speed accident.

Although I admit I have not researched this. Going only by what I recall through my life.

I would also like to point out i personally do not use any type of drug or alcohol.
I don't like how it makes me feel.
I have had a lot of contact with people that use both and that is where most of my experience comes from.

Never did see a Stoner that had quick reflexes.

Once MJ is lawful, then the next step we can take is to make cocaine lawful. Then as long as you are that far with stoners making the laws, why not heroin or any other mind altering drug. It is our own body and can do what we please with it (sarc..).

In all due respect. Experience doesn't come from looking over the fence. Most find out by walking the their shoes.
