it IS costing me money. I have to take a half day off work to drive back to my farm to meet animal control each time. They won't inspect your property without you being there.

Tell them to think before flagging my property? uh.. yeah.. sure.. YOU go tell that to a cop .... :(

poor advice

soundguy

If it's not costing you money to prove no neglect, instead of getting so upset about who or why, just ignore it. Tell the animal control people to think first before they put another flag on your fence.

I don't think it's worth losing your cool over, especially if you know your in the right. Maybe they were concerned about that fat horse, that he's too overweight

Soundguy, didn't you just find yourself as a witness to usual behavior on your road? Made me wonder if the two problems could be related.

MarkV

i'd say yes.. but it's happened before then 2.. so.. not sure it is connected...

You would think after a few times coming out to your place for no reason the animal control people would tend to the "anonymous" party themselves. I'm sure that they don't like their time being wasted either.

my thoughts too.. but 'they have to investigate each claim' yada yada yada.

believe me.. I asked them about this too.. :(

Why do you have to be there for the officer to see the condition of the animals? If the person calling in the complaint can see the animals in question, why do YOU have to be there for the officer to see the animals?

If the officer can see the animals from the fence line why is the livestock owner bothered?

If it happens a third time I would start talking with supervisors. The officer should have some discretion on how to handle the call. I would hope FLA does not have a statutory requirement for the officer's response.

Later,
Dan

you have to be there so they can look the animals over closely and take pics.. etc.

it's borderline harrassment via cop, due to the FALSE reports.

so far NONE of my animals have EVER been found to have a problem..

Change the law so if the call doesn't generate a ticket, the reporting parting shall be fined for a faults report.

HS

i'd love to do that.

might have to call my county commissioner...

Well Soundguy, on the bright side the animail control officers will get to know you in short order and know that you're a good guy. They probably will get tired of this as much as you will because its wasitng their time, too. Perhaps you can talk to the head of the agency. Maybe come up with an agreement that they put a note in your file that these calls keep happening and that you do, indeed, have a one-eyed horse? I don't know. Its worth a call at least. Good luck.

the officer in my area now has my cell phone number.. I asked her to call me when she gets a complaint so I can get out there BEFORE the red sign gets displayed.

and yes.. they do have it in my record the horse .. the 30 yr old horse has 1 eye.. was removed by a vet at an expensive equine hospital, a procedure costing many times the value of the horse.. ....

This certainly warrants a letter to whatever powers can change it ... the red sign that is ... Isn't that basically slander or libel or defamation??

That part is surely ridiculous as hell.

Continuing in the vein of possible conspiracies:

I wonder if any TBN members live near you? You know, maybe one that wipes diesel oil on his attachments to protect them from the weather?

Oh man, bad joke for a serious subject... sorry. Just couldn't resist my lame attempt at humor.

This must be really irritating to have it being repeated. Years back when I still raised cattle I had the Sheriff's Office stop by once. This is a pretty rural county, so the Sheriff's Office handles this kind of thing. Three calves had managed to weasel into the feed room in the barn and basically ate themselves to death. Seems one of my boys may not have properly secured the door after finishing their chores. The calves wandered out into the pasture to lay down and puff up and die, right out by the county road of course.

I discovered them later and drug them up to the barnyard to wait for the
rendering truck, but obviously someone had already seen them and called it in. I had to explain their demise to the deputy who said he'd relay it back to the reporting party. He just shook his head and kind of chuckled. I think he thought it was pretty silly to have to be wasting his time like that.

I couldn't help but feel irritated that some busy body, no doubt newly moved to the country, would see those calves laying there and make some ugly assumption about what I may have done or not done for them to die. They
couldn't see that the rest of the herd was in fine shape?? I'm sure they thought they were doing the right thing.

Had they continued to make calls on occasion I'm sure the Sherrif's office would have helped educate them and put a stop to it.

And that's exactly what the animal control people need to be doing for you.

What would happen if you just ignore the sign ...

... or rather take it down & put it in the garbage.

I mean, if you're not actually breaking any law, would it matter if you ignore the sign & not bother calling them?

IF I find a soloution to this I'll update it.

I have a few things to try / think about.. will see..

so far the only thing I KNOW i can do is to just keep taking care of my animals so when they DO come out.. nothing is wrong.. and I just loose a half days of work .... :/
