I have an '88 JD 750 compact, bought it new.

Being on the wrong side of 60, riding around mowing in the stock seat is giving my back fits.

I'm considering going to an aftermarket suspension seat. I'm enough of a fabricator to make a mount that will work.

Anybody done this? If so, what seat did you use, where did you get it, and did you have any issues getting it positioned and mounted? Does it make a lot of difference?

It seems like if you bolted a plate to where the seat mounts now, then the seat could be bolted to that with heavy springs?

check a farm store. I've mounted spring ride seats to many of my old fords.

It makes a huge difference. I've just fitted a suspension seat to my Kubota
B7510. The stock seat was a pan type arrangement that left me with a sore back and spine. I can't believe that Kubota would have fitted such a poorly designed original seat. Anyway, my upgrade is a 'Bareco' small tractor suspension seat. I'm guessing that it would have a different name in the States. They're most likely all of Chinese in origin. There is a bit of fiddling 'round and welding to make a base, and you'll need to consider whether you want to keep the engine cut-off switches. I opted to leave mine off because it would have required another level of enginneering to include them in the new build. If you do leave them off you'll need to pressure the switches. I used some 5 mm steel plate as the base. You'll also need to think about your seat belt. If you change to a suspension seat, you'll need to change your recoil seat belt to just a lap type belt. I got one for $20 from the wreckers. Good luck with the project.
