Steering Wheel Vibration

/ Steering Wheel Vibration #21
Since my stroke 2 years ago, my left hand, leg & foot are very sensitive to vibration. Anti fatigue mat on floor of zero turn and tractor helps for foot, but haven't found any solution for hand.
Let us know what helps most.

The older I get, the more vibration affects my hands. Most notably is tractor steering wheel vibration. After a couple of hours, I get tingling & numbness in my hands & wrists. Doc says it's likely Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Wearing padded gloves helps but not for marathon mowing / plowing sessions.

I was on the L6060HSTC for 6 hours yesterday clearing snow and this morning, I can hardly feel my hands. Anyone else have this issue and know of a fix? I'm going to look into a steering wheel cover to see if that helps.

I used to help my FIL during harvest season by operating his JD combine. It was like driving a luxury car compared to my tractors. No wheel vibration and the cab was quiet enough to hold a conversation. I realize you can't compare a $300K machine with isolated controls to a compact tractor. Seems like something could be done though.
I had the carpel in both wrist last year. turns out Im Diabetic and my sugar or my A1c had been a little high. this caused a separation in the joints in my wrist causing the carpel. got my A1c down close to normal and 9 months later the carpel in both wrist went away. but I still have Arthritis in both hands. has to be from 50 yrs of being a Auto Tech. worn em out.but it Osteoarthritis.. thank God.. not the bad one. I can still work with my hands now. so,if your Diabetic and your A1C is a little high this could be the cause.

Check the interweb for physical therapy exercises to help your carpal tunnel. The wife was told she needed surgery for her CTS but some PT sessions relieved the pain without surgery. That was well over ten years ago.

I have been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome, I have issues with chainsaws and weed wackers. I have a pair if padded gloves (padding in palm and inside of fingers) that helps. But I don’t think I’ve ever had a 6 hour duration of vibration.
For your application with that length of duration, could you use one hand at a time and alternate hands? I realize that there are times that operating controls dictate what your hands are doing, but on long plowing runs or snow pushing runs, you should be able to steer with the other hand giving the one (on my tractor the left hand) some relaxation time.

There are some braces that can be worn (I was told yo wear at night by my doctor) that support and restrict wrist/hand/finger movement. Working with them on just didn’t work for me. I don’t think tractor work would be possible either, but might help afterward.

Only other thing is to take anti inflammatory meds before starting tractor work and continuing yo take them while working as well as afterward.

Good advice… many years back, when Julie and I did long-distance motorcycle touring, we packed a bottle of ibuprofen labeled “Touring Candy”… we’d pop a couple as we were donning our riding gear, a couple more at lunch and a couple at our daily destination. A ‘73 BMW shakes more than today’s silky smooth touring bikes…😎

‘Course yer gonna have to check with yer doc on this… ibuprofen is kinda hard on the liver…

I went through exactly the same thing. Turned out to be a pinched nerve in my neck caused by a collapsing vertebra. They took a chunk of bone from my hip and grafted it into my neck, with 99% improvement. You may need second opinion. Good luck.
By the way... I was given the same carpel tunnel story. I happened to be introduced to a retired (old time) doctor. When we shook hands he looked at my posture and sensed my grip and nearly instantly said, 'You're going to a neurologist'. Of course, he was right.

Hi guys, New Holland has a steering resonator on their boomer line of tractors to keep this manageable, maybe get one and plumb in after the pump? Here's the details MT40350687 at your NH dealer.
