Update on my transmission problem.... When my tractor was fairly new it developed a very high pitch bearing noise in B3 and B4 with high load (moco, loaded trailer etc) , dealer couldn't find or hear noise. Now with 940 hours the noise is much worse and present in all ranges, causes a terrible noise in reverse under load that you can feel in the shifter.

John Deere Canada was involved last summer, someone came out and drove the tractor and said there was definitely a problem. Tractor finally got into a different dealership last week and tore down. Service manager just called me and said they were ordering all new gears, gaskets, etc. Because it was and ongoing problem they are going to warranty it, but if I didn't complain while under warranty I would likely be on my own.

On the plus side they gave me a 6330 Premium IVT to use in the mean time!

Maybe they will try to interest you in a trade. ;)

Don't think I could buy another new John Deere again after all of the problems I have had with mine, and a local dealer that can't fix them. No matter how nice those new 6 series are!

I was getting the impression that they were bending over backwards for you... can't fix a problem that they can't hear. And in the end, are fixing as well as not making you do without. Hmmm??

Even after confirming the noise and saying they would get it fixed right away it took 9 months or so and they sent it out to another dealership capable of the work. They knew I wasn't happy anyway because of the last time they worked on it. They replaced turbo, I got dropped off at dealer at night to drive it home, they left connectors unplugged for the lights and left the exhaust loose and leaking badly. Also cross threaded bolts. Was to the dealer before that for other issues, and service work was poor (loose bolts, unplugged connector, unprogrammed shuttle control, etc) The salesman was great to loan me a tractor, yes. But I said I would be fine to go a couple weeks without it last Aug-Dec and it didn't get in then.

If everything works out good and I get a couple trouble free years out of it I would consider buying another Deere, I will need a second tractor within two years. I know a lot of people on here have had good luck with the 5E's but I certainly haven't, maybe I just have a lemon. Either way I will be putting 600-800 hours per year on it in the next couple years so I will have a better idea of how it is holding up.

WOW! A 6330 Premium IVT loaner. Let us know how you like that one. Was looking to buy one not long ago but the price tag didn't allow it.

Without going into all the details, I must say my experience with Deere warranty over many years has been outstanding. Not that I've had many problems but Deere seems to always want to make things right with the customer. I can't say that about some others.

Update. After 3 weeks at dealer they dropped it off to me and didn't say anything. Still not fixed. They sent two mechanics out again to listen to it, said there definitely was a problem but they had the transmission and range box apart and couldn't see anything wrong. Replaced gears to an upgraded part number while it was apart. They are going to try low noise hydraulic fluid. Other then that they said run it as normal until it breaks, haven't heard back from them if they will warranty it if it doesn't break for another 2 or 3 years.... They were trying to get me to trade it in, offered a reasonable trade in and money off an in stock 5M. Next tractor will be bigger, shopping around and NH T5, MF 5610, Kubota M100X all are bigger, heavier, MF and Kubota have powershift for the same price as a 5M. Just want to get mine fixed for now!

6330 premium was nice, didn't like the IVT transmission at all though.

What did you not like about the IVT? I would fear expensive repairs. Did they not have any 6000 series with Power Quad?

I think the IVT is optional in the 6330, but it was the only tractor they had to loan. IVT felt very awkward, was nice for loader work but hard to get used to.

Dealer said that's about as far as they are willing to go with the tractor, I'm on my own by the sounds of it. Contacted John Deere North America, we shall see how they stand behind their product when the dealer can't fix it.

Does Canada have a "lemon" law? If it can't be fixed, they buy it back.

Don't think there is a lemon law here. They seemed good on the phone, called back and said they have got things going with a John Deere rep and dealership. They will all discuss my situation and let me know what is going to happen in a few days. Happy with how fast they got things going.

Back at the dealer getting split now. After cutting 80 acres of silage I couldn't run it in B4 it was so loud, mowed in B3, still very loud up hills. Just put another 150 hours on it so hopefully they will see something obvious. It sure sounds bad.

Are you mowing in Economy PTO setting ?
Does it mk this noise in Normal 540 PTO setting ?

I mow with moco at full rpm's. It is loudest then but the noise is present from idle all the way to full speed. Gets louder with rpm's and increased load. I usually top pastures in economy pto mode and it's still fairly loud at times but at least I can hear the radio.

Need to run mower conditioner at normal pto and it takes every bit of power the tractor has.

Tractor has been at the dealer for 2 weeks now. Stopped in this morning, it is completely tore down, mechanic and manager have inspected everything in the transmission, range box and differential. They said there is a fair bit of wear on a lot of parts, particularly the differential ring and pinion but have found nothing obvious that could be causing the noise.

I can tell that they are getting as frustrated with the tractor as I am. They know there is a problem, but just can't find it. Not sure what is going to happen if they can't fix it but I really need a tractor soon!

Has been at the dealer for 3 weeks, looks like it will be there for at least another week or 2. In the 3 years I have owned this tractor it has now spent about 3 months at the dealer in total for various problems. Dealer found a damaged syncroniser and suspect it may be the cause of the noise so they are going to replace that. They also are going to replace the ring and pinion while they have it apart due to excessive wear, and the mechanic thinks it is causing a different noise. If you look at the rear end on a 5E and think it looks pretty light duty you are right!

In the mean time I have no tractor and about 80 hours of work waiting as soon as I get it back. The way these tractors are built I'm not sure if they will last 4000hrs. I was hoping to get double that without major problems.

The axles, engine & all driveline on my 5093E is identical to my father in laws 5425.
The 5045 & 5065E tractors are the cheaper made tractors IMHO
Hope u get it back soon

Stopped in this morning, looks like it will be a few days before I get it back, but the internals are almost all back together.
The ring gear was badly wore but the mechanic said it wasn't installed properly from factory (way too tight) so it's wasn't a problem with the actual part, just the person who put it together in China or India or wherever.
Syncronizer was also badly wore, but the new part was upgraded and had friction material instead of brass. Some bearings were also replaced.

Talked to the Mechanic for a while, he seemed to know what he was doing and is confident all of the problems will be fixed, crossing my fingers!
