Anybody pull the vermeer rebel baler with this tractor,or any other baler for that matter. I have 80 acres to maintain 50 in pasture, would like to round bale my hay for wintering cattle and extra to sell. I have a branson 4720 4x4 47 horse now good tractor not enough horsepower and open station. I like the 4720 deere cab with hst. Any problems with the 4x20 series? Thanks Jim

the $$ puts the 4720 very close to a good low hour 5x25 machine, which is much more suited to hay operations.

I agree about the 5 series. I would pick up a used 4720. I do tractor work on my days off from the station and the smaller frame series is much better suited. Trying to get the best of both worlds here. Had an open station 5510 4x4 w/loader a few years back great tractor loved fuel though. The smaller frames get much better fuel economy, which = more money in the pocket at the years end. Was thinking late model 4x00 series for now and later on getting a 80-90 horse older 2 wheel drive cab in a few years.

No problems at all on mine. I haven't really put it to work with a baler or anything like it. I did ask at the dealership once and the boys there thought it'd be a stretch. I think the 4x20's are a little 'fancier' than the 5 series in terms of options, but function should always take precedence, IMO.

Darin Divinia has had a 4720, now has a 4520, and I think has a 5 series too, so he's likely your man on this one.

50 acres of hay is not a large-scale haying operation. Even if you get 3 cutting's per season.

I seem to recall that the Vermeer has one of the lowest PTO hp requirements of the large balers as well; correct? And of course, one of the advantages of a round baler is you don't have all that centrifical force from the plunger buckin' and pushin' the back end of the tractor all over the field!

I would venture that the 4720 would manage the situation just fine. At least in the short term --- most debate on the forums here centers around the long-term use of tractors in the 4,000lb range. Many argue that the 4000 series tractors won't hold up under that kind of use for 5,000+ hours like a 5000 series tractor.
