4700 will not start

All I get when I turn the key is a fuel solinod click. I installed a new battery and had the starter rebuilt and neither one of those fixed the problem. Checked all of the safety interlocks. Cables check out ok with a meter. Allo fuses checked and OK. I am baffled on what to do next. The Tractor Please help if you can and thanks.

Here's what I would do, trace the wires to the ignition switch. Pull them off and touch them together to see if engine turns over. Kinda like hot wiring a car. It could possibly be as simple as a bad ignition switch. Had this happen to me on a 86 Dodge truck. Drove me nuts.

If battery tests 12+ volts I'll bet it's the ground cable. Probably where ground attaches to tractor. A volt/ohm meter may show 12 volts but the cables if a bad connection won't carry the amps for turning starter.

Does a 4700 have a thermistor?
That is a very common problem when a 4200, 4300 or 4400 doesn't start.

Try doing a TBN search for "thermistor". There are numerous threads on this subject.

Finally got it fixed. I found a broken wire coming off of the PTO switch. Poor factory crimp left me stranded for over a month. The wire was broke at the crimp but then only to be reattached to the very end of the crimp connector where the covered wire is suppose to be held as a strain releif. Factory screw up! This little gremlin has been pissing me off for 12 years now. thanks JD
