4300 Range Shift Fork Replacement

Dad and I working on a 4300 with Collar Shift that needs a broken fork replaced on the range shifter. We've drained the oil in the case and removed the top cover to find the problem. Service manual indicates the next step is to split the tractor at the rear of the tunnel.

Hoping there might be someone here that has come across this in the past and found a shortcut to avoid the case splitting.
