430 deck removal

Hello everyone,

I tried searching on this topic, several ways, but didn't find anything definitive.

Is there a certain order things need to be done? I've managed to get almost everything disconnected, with the exception of the driveshaft from the front PTO shaft. What is the trick to getting it off. It SEEMS to be stuck on. I just bought the GT and want to 'freshen things up'.

Post a good pic or two of what you are stumped with. Think we can help get you over the hump.

I believe there is a sliding ring that locks the PTO shaft on, and u need to just slide it back a bit to slide the shaft off the splined stub. Some lubrication might be needed, such as PB blaster or WD-40 if hard, caked grease makes it stick.

Have you been able to slide that ring (looks like a donut) back as this unlocks the connection, and lets it slide off the splined stub??

Didn't know to do that. Let me go check and see if i can move it back.

Thank you for that bit of information. It came off just as you said it would. Now I can start to refurbishing it.

Sometimes these things are easier said than done, so glad it worked for you. There are little steel balls in there that the ring captures to lock the PTO on the shaft.

Post some pics of the process of refurbishing. We like pics and any story helps.
