4052R down pressure

It's a no-go even without the TnT, your 3PH (three point hitch) does not have any down pressure, except for the weight of whats attached to it.

image.jpg here is the build your picture, it's in the brochure also. 450# of downforce.

Thank you Cletus, I totally missed it in both places.

Yes it was not up on the configure site till lately. But it's been in the brochure the whole time of the 4e/r , my salesman had a hard time finding it also.

It will make no difference to the top & tilt cylinders if there is down pressure applied through the hitch. So yes get top & tilt for your tractor. If you want an equal amount of tilt to each side with the tilt cylinder, don't get the JD system, their tilt cylinders are pretty much built to have the implement level when fully retracted.

Many people have asked me to provide 2 tilt cylinders with the idea that they could have the hitch fully raised and then extend the side links to apply down pressure. While that can be done, without actually knowing how all of the internal parts are built, not a good idea simply because most 3pts are not built to apply down pressure.

As far as the new 4000 series JDs, no reason to not get top & tilt. ;)

Just as an add on, using down force on the 3pt increases the load put on the front drive train.

Hmm... That's interesting. Is it just an on/off feature or a variable rate downforce 0 to 450lbs ?

I think their down force kit is independent of the top and tilt. It bolts to a frame that is biked to the lower side by the draft links and the upper 3 point arms. Yes a switch like on off. I guess not enough hydraulic power to run everything??

I'd say not enough real estate to have everything vs enough power. We'll have to wait and see on this one.

I was not sure what you meant by 'independent of' but just in case, my read of the JD site is you can't have both the Down Pressure option and the Top and Tilt option.

It may be that a 3rd rear SCV would be needed and that is not offered. :confused3:

Cletus, what did you find out ? What's the decision ? Personally, I thought the downward pressure concept was kind of appealing.

If 450 pounds of down pressure is applied to the Three Point Hitch, you will have 450 pounds less tractor traction.

( Newton's Law: Equal and Opposite Reaction. )

This is why it is important to buy HEAVY ground contact implements; especially box scrapers, angle blades and disc harrows, which skim the surface of the ground. Implement weight/gravity is all the down force which can be applied.

Down pressure would negate the effect of Harry Ferguson's Three Point Hitch, which is to transfer mounted implement weight to the tractor's rear tires through the Lower Links, to improve traction; and to transfer mounted implement weight to the front tires when the Top Link is in compression.

I'm with KennyD: "We'll have to wait and see on this one."

Well case 570s have it john deere LKs have it so I was just thinking it was a good thing you know when stripping grass on pads and such.

I would venture to say that what JD wants for that down pressure feature is going to cost more than what the additional cost would be to get a better box blade that weighs that additional 450lbs. I might be wrong and it may be a feature that they offer very reasonably priced though. :confused3:
