Wouldn't just not installing the top link work for you, MrWinkey? A lot of people mow that way. It works well and is a whole easier than making the top link float and cost nothing to do. The only disadvantage is that you can't lift the rear wheel of the mower off the ground for long transports. Also, there are mowers such as the Woods BB60x, and others, that have a floating mechanism built into the mower that an be adjusted so you can still lift it completely off the ground if needed. (WAY off the ground if you have an hydraulic top link) I have one of those self floating Woods mowers and I also have a floating hydraulic top link. I never use the floating top link feature as it doesn't float nearly as well as does the floating mechanism that is built into the mower.

Cougsfan makes a great point! My BushHog brand rotary cutter and finish mower float. I never use the float with my hydraulic top link. I added float because of my ditch bank flail. It allows the head of the mower to follow the contour of the ground.

Adding float to my Branson cost me less than $200 and took a few hours of work.

Using a chain in place of a top link will also allow for floating an implement while still being able to lift it,
the amount of lift will depend on the length of the chain.

I do wish that the Bransons had been available with at least one rear remote with a float detent.

The hydraulic valve idea looks great so l will do that soon as I find the valve. Looked at 2 hydraulic stores today and they don't carry electric units so I might end up ordering something.

I need to be able to pickup the mower to mow hill banks and transport. The mower has a built in flex head but it's easier to just put in the hydraulic. Then I could also add a second electric unit for a 3rd function. Grapple or a tilt on the blade.
