3-point height stop?

Forgive my ignorance as my TYM T224 is the first 3-point equipped machine I've owned. So far I've only used the below pictured hitch attachment on it. What I can't figure out is, if I'm not careful on how high I raise the 3-pt with this hitch attached, the top link goes high enough to slam against the tractor's frame/x-member.

There is what I thought was a max height adjustment set bolt/jamb nut (purple arrow pointing to it, 3rd pic down), but adjusting that has had no effect. There are no additional holes for the top link and there is absolutely nothing in the operator's manual on it.

My finger is pointing to the dent and broken paint from the few times I went too high with the mowing deck and this hitch on at the same time. The 3-pt moves about 75% of it's travel before the deck moves it's ~6" between full up and full down.

Turn the adjuster on the top link to make it longer. Enough so your attachment is plumb. That will change the angle of your top link and give it more clearance.

Thanks. I forgot to mention I've tried that as well. I threaded out the top link until there wasn't much left in the barrel. Same deal. It will still hit.

I suspect this tractor has what is often called a "limited cat 1" 3 pt hitch.

This means the distance between the lower arms and top link is shorter than a regular cat 1 hitch. So when using a regular cat 1 implement just like that one in the picture, which has the regular spacing between the lower pins and top link pin, tends to push the top link way too high.

Does your tractor have an adjustable stop on the 3 pt lever? Some do, you may want to look into that, so you could limit how far the lever moves.

Good to know. I didn't know a limited Cat 1, 3-point existed until I read your post. Maybe that's what it is. There's no wording in any of the specs I can find for this machine that say anything other than it being a cat 1, but the operator's manual is about worthless.

Both lift pins and the top pin are 3/4". I don't know that there's any adjustable stops on the up/down control lever for the 3-pt.

I've never paid attention to the 3pt going up too high, although I don't always like the angle on the PTO shaft at fully raised.

Take a picture of the 3pt adjustment lever. Most tractors have an minimum height adjuster. Very handy for things like setting one's mower height. It probably wouldn't take much to make a maximum height adjusting bolt.

I'd probably create an upper and lower bar across the slot, a stud, and a knurled nut, all with some kind of anti rotation.
Perhaps a lower bar, a top bar that was shaped like an inverted U to fit into the slot, and the nut.

There's no mechanical stops/adjustments for the lever itself aside from a rubber pad on the fuel tank to prevent the lever from slamming into the fuel tank when you pull the lever to the 'up' direction. It's just a lever bolted to a shaft that runs into the transaxle housing. The further you push/pull the lever, the faster the up/down.

The triangular hitch I bought is just a cheap thing I bought off the Amazon machine so I could move some stuff around with a ball mount hitch. It was like $40.

I may some day get a 3-pt snowblower for this machine.

On my 2400H Branson there is an adjustment to limit lift arm height. Would have to dig the manual out but if feeble memory is correct it is the same feedback lever to stop lift based on command position. Your model may not have position control so that may not be an option for you.

What about a longer different top link? Would that get it out far enough to not hit? Take a pic with the top link OFF and with the hitch raised all the way. What's a straight line from a vertical implement to the top link hole look like then?

To limit the travel of the 3pt lever, you could find a (1/4"? 5/16"?) carriage bolt the right size so that the square part on the back of the head was a good fit in the slot where the lever moves.

Put that in the slot from the underside, add a washer (big enough to clear square part of bolt) or two up top, followed by a wing nut.

Loosen the wing nut, the carriage bolt will slide in the groove. Tighten it down, and it'll stay in place to block 3pt lever.
